Deadly sponge is right - If you ever have a water accident pull the battery out and let it dry for a couple days. Don't power it on to 'test' in the drying process, just let it go.
Never heard of the fridge trick, and I don't think the fridge will draw any more moisture away then a normal room. |

The best thing to do is take the battery out immediately. If its salt water you want to dunk the phone in clean water to remove the salt as it will cause issues down the road.
Put it in a plastic ziplock with as many of those silica packs you can fit in there to absorb the moisture. You can get these from your local pharmacy as they have tons of them from the drugs. Put the sealed bag under a desk lamp to let it heat up a little and speed up the moisture extraction.

My GF spilled beer on mine a few weeks ago and just wiped it off without telling me. I was using it later that night and noticed my joystick starting to become unresponsive. When I opened it up the keyboard was all wet. So I immediately removed the battery and SD card and grabbed my can of compressed air to blow the majority of the water out of the device. I then (with the keyboard out) placed it on top of the cables behind my PC and let it sit there for a few hours with the hot air blowing on it like a hair dryer. Crisis averted! But I still chewed out my GF for not telling me sooner
