Thank you again for your help with this OEM. I'd also like to see Spb Weather's issues fixed as well as the EXT Theme support for Pocket Plus. It's great to see the community comming together on this massive project.

If I get time tomorrow i plan to focus on the Wisbar OEM I mentioned in another thread.

On a side note, I didn't get an answer to my question about changing to the crossbow dialer. Is there a way to do this without reflashing? How about if I wanted to load one of the other dialers? (I really like some of the ones on http://www.paulya.com/).

I've actually been using the "Blissed" dialer since nov of last year. I have the cab file and just installed it after customizing etc. I didn't know I could build it into the ROM!! I thought for some reason since it was old that it wouldn't be compatible. Now I want to put it in as my dialer before I make my own ROM.

A new ArcsoftMMS has been posted: ArcSoftMMS 4.0.31.22

Is anyone looking into producing a OEM?

I've finally confirmed something that was happening sporadically and wanted to know if anyone else was seeing this.

I've got programs that are just disappearing from my start menu and sometimes altogether. It's happened to a few games and to PhotoContactsPro. The games were installed on the mSD card. PCP is always installed in main memory.
When it just disappears from the Start Menu, I just recreate a link and put it back there. But when a program disappears from \Program Files totally, I end up reinstalling it. PCP also disappears from the Today screen every so often- it comes back by going into Today Settings and making sure it's checked off and then going back. But that's pretty annoying.

I'm not doing anything to make this happen (that I know of). It does seem to happen more often after a soft reset, but not always.

Do you have the "Dead Shortcuts" option checked in Cleartemp?

OOOOoooohh.
You are so smart!
I don't use ClearTemp, but I am using MemMaid and it runs on each soft reset and it does check for Dead Shortcuts!
Brilliant. I'll disable that little checkbox.
Thank you!

I fixed my issue with the JPLDialer. I just created an OEM from the default package (with E-Ten and Vista skin included) and moved the Vista_Black images into the directory, overwriting the existing skin.

I had to really hack up Weather Watcher to get it to work, and I wanted to ask if I did it correctly. Since everything is installed in \Windows, I had to basically create and new directory \Windows\Weather Watcher and all the sub directories that would otherwise be in \Program Files\Weather Watcher. I recreated each file's shortcut in my initflashfiles.txt and changed the .link file to point to the actually .exe in the \Windows\Weather Watcher folder. The program would work without doing all these steps, but the data wouldn't show on screen since it all depends on the icons and images that reside in the \Weather Watcher subfolders.

a) Does what I said make sense?
b) Is that done correctly? I read in another post that ROM files are just that, read only and can't be moved, just copied.

I never could get Slide2Unlock to work for me, but I don't really use anyways.

Thanks!

Yes, the steps similar to this are needed for a number of OEMS.

Your strategy may not be ideal though, as things copied with initflashfiles.txt will take up additional, Storage Memory. As you mention in b) things are not moved via initflashfiles.txt just copied, worse they are copies made in Storage Memory, and take up some of the usable memory space. If you are copying all the files included in your OEM, your package is worse than installing via CAB. It will take up both ROM and Storage Memory space, while the CAB would only take up Storage Memory.

Ideally you want to copy as few files as needed. I'm not sure there is any way to limit the copied files in this particular case, but many apps provide settings to control where they pull resources from that can be altered to point to \Windows.

Edit: Fixed references to RAM -> Storage Memory

Just want to clarify the good info Kolano posted for you. When he speaks of RAM he doesn't really mean RAM as in the 64MB of SDRAM chips--he's referring to "Storage Memory" which is really just another partition of the 128MB Flash chip that also holds the ROM and some other things.

Bottom line, apps that require too many file copy operations with initflashfiles (or provxml) aren't worth having as OEMs becuase of the "double tax" Kolano mentioned.

Thanks, that's great info. This is the only OEM that I have that requires this process, so I don't feel too bad about it. The only one I've created myself I mean. I use a few that were already in the kitchen, so they may do the same.

As it stands now...

Storage
Total: 39.59Mb
In Use: 2.99Mb
Free: 36.60Mb

Program
Total: 49.19Mb
In Use: 27.86Mb
Free: 21.33Mb

This is with all the CABs I ever use installed. Weather Watcher is only an executable and image files. There is no configuration and nothing in the registry, so I only have two options. Since this is my first ROM build I think I'll leave it as is. I can't go back to installing CAB files now. You people have sucked me in!

Thanks again!
