Upgrade to Radio 1.41
3 Attachment(s)
Here is easy and simple way to upgrade to the newest radio 1.41. Download the file below, un-zip, put your phone in bootloader mode (hold record button and power button, press the soft reset button), and run APACUpgradeUt_noID. Follow the onscreen instructions, then when finished, perform a soft reset instead of a hard reset (this way you wont lose all of your data). It will tell you to do a hard reset, but believe me, a soft reset will word just fine.
This will work for all apache's on any carrier |
AWSOME! Completed upgrade and is rocking out! Already inproved my signal 2 bars, where I had none and also went from 1x to EVDO service.
Ive spent hours today looking for it! Thanks Phoenx! |
Ignore previous stupidity.
|
Yes, it tells you to do that in the onscreen instructions

I ran the file again and saw. It's embarrassing because I always get on my wife & son about reading directions and not "skimming". Thanks. Update is 64% done. Done. Holy cow. Immediate difference in signal strength. I usually get 0-1 bars here at home. Now getting 2-3! Almost as good a real phone. |
Am I right is saying that the stock radio is in the kitchen in case I have a problem?
|
I can get you the stock one if you have problems, but you shouldn't
|
WOW, THANKS!
I went to a place where I usually get 0-1 bars and fluctuations ebtween 1x and EVDO. It fluctuated between 3 and 4 bars and stayed on EVDO the whole time! Now to try it out at my home... |
I followed the directions and i keep getting the error that this device is not designed for this upgrade. Does anyone know what i did wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated

oddly enough i actually got less signal after upgrading. according to phonealarm i had 34 then did the upgrade and now have 18. i dont plan on downgrading but thought i'd provide my experience for others to see. i hear battery life is better and that interests me more than a smidgen of signal. vzw btw

Will this work on stock Sprint ROM?
Does this work for the ROM shipped from Sprint (I can't upgrade to 3.3 or 3.5 until there is a solution for the goodlink issue with those ROM's)?
|
Waspie: Move it around a bit, and give it some time. Then test it again, it improved mine and many others. Hope things work out for you.
chachi69: Yes, it will upgrade any apache, running any rom. This upgrades the radio stack in your phone, so it is independant from your rom |

I just flashed my veri$on 6700 with this radio rom. Everything worked smoothly. I'm getting 3 bars of EVDO here at my desk. In the past my phone seemed to fluctuate between 2 and 3 bars here. I haven't seen it drop to 2 yet since the upgrade.
Thanks for posting this. |
Well after you complete the update for Verizon, the best thing to do is update your PRL files. To do this, dial *22899. This will udpate your Roaming capability and programming on the phone. Then soft reset your phone, or usually it will complete on its own.
This also can be accomplished by dialing *228. Then it will prompt you to program your phone, or update your roaming capability. The *22899 simply updates both with out the manual selection prompts! DISCLAIMER! PLEASE make sure that you complete this step IN YOUR *HOME* network area. Ex. If you live in Columbus, Ohio, then complete the update there. If not the update will change your home calling area, and will jack up your phone and service areas!!!!!!! |
Just installed it on my Alltel 6700... haven't seen a difference (strong signal here) but at least it works. We'll see over the weekend if it makes a difference.
Regardless, thanks to phoenx06 for simplifying the process. Now if we could just get that new kitchen... (just kidding, I know you guys are doing your best and it will be worth the wait) |
any one elses Speakerphone/ringer got really distorted after running this?
Mine sounds terrible it was working fine before i did this. |

Just flashed mine and I can confirm a significant boost in signal strength.
1.27 Radio RX Power: 94-97dbm Rx Ec/Io: 20-23db 1.41 Radio RX Power: 83-86dbm Rx Ec/Io: 5-7db Very nice indeed! |
Might this additional boost in signal strength drain the battery faster? Or should the fact that it's holding onto a signal longer rather than disconnecting / reconnecting help save battery drain?
FWIW, I have not noticed any additional bars or reception with the 1.27 or the 1.4 over the 1.1 |
Original Bell Mobility Contains bl_03.nbf and bl_04.nbf which is a New Boot Loader but will prevent the User for further downgrade so if you find this file in the flash directory Just Delete that file and then Upgrade

As others I've had good success with this upg.
Verizon XV6700. |
Sorry for the noob question, but I see a bunch of files in the ZIP...do I put those in a specific location on the phone? I've never used bootloader mode, except perhaps when upgrading to the official 2.2. ROM.
Any guidance regarding what to do with the ZIP file contents would be super appreciated! Thanks a ton in advance! - Doug :-) |
I installed this and have also seen significant signal increase. I'm on Alltel and live in small town with a lot of rural areas and so far I haven't gone below 2 bars in areas I wouldn't get any signal. Definitely recommend on Alltel.

DougB: Just unzip the .zip on your comp. Put your phone in bootloader by holding the record button and the power button and press the soft reset button. Connect your phone via usb to your computer. Open up the folder on your computer and double click the RUU file (APACUpgradeUt_noID). Follow the onscreen directions, and wait for it to finish flashing. Then, when your computer tells you to do a hard reset, do a soft reset instead (so you wont lose all your data). After the reset your phone will boot up, and you will have the newest radio version.
|
is the an upgrade or is this like a AKU rom?
|
This will flash your radio stack to the new 1.41 version. It does not affect your OS version in anyway. The new Bell Mobility AKU includes this radio update, but I have pulled it out in order to allow people to just update their radio, and not have to lose their data. So it will flash like a full AKU, but it will actually only update your radio
|
Yay, thanks Phoenx06! I now have the 1.41 radio and 4 bars at work! I still have the 2.06 ROM, but that's another story. I'm waiting for the nbk file from the official 3.3.1 BM ROM to be loaded into a kitchen before I cook my first upgrade.
Thanks again! - Doug :-) |
less signal
I did the upgrade and it appears to have installed properly but now my signal is weaker than before by 1 to 2 bars. Any ideas?
|
Worked for TELUS
Just wanted to say thanks for doing this. I just upgraded my 6700 on Telus and it is working fine. Too early to comment on signal strength, but wanted to let other Telus users know that the upgrade went fine for me.
Can't wait for the new kitchen! |
Telus user here - just upgraded and running well. Thanks for all your hard work.
