I have self taught myself everything (mostly) all the way back to the original kitchens. N E ways. I have recently upgraded to the new radio. Everything went fine and took but, I have actually lost all reception now! I have no bars and 1X in my taskbar. Any Ideas??!!

I suggest you flash back to the original radio ROM for your carrier. Just go to www.utstar.com and download the latest rom release for your particular carrier, extract it with winrar and delete the nk.nbf and ms_.nbf files. Then run the ROM UpgradeUT.exe and it will reflash the original radio ROM (takes a while, at least 5 minutes if not longer).

Then once that is done see if you get any difference in your signal meter. If no change than what you're seeing is unrelated to the radio ROM.

Wisdom3G 07-14-2007 04:19 AM

I'll get right on that. Thanks Luv2chill!

craigerk 07-14-2007 04:26 AM

awesome! Was only getting maybe one bar and dead spots in my house. but now I get atleast 3 bars, mostly 4!

Wisdom3G 07-14-2007 05:20 AM

Thanks Luv! I downgraded back to v.1.10.00 and my reception has came back and even a little bit better than before I initially upgraded. But I am puzzled as to why the newest radio rom did not take?! Here it has helped so many others and the help would have been appreciated on my end, especially if it is true that it improves battery life as well as reception.

Torx 07-14-2007 05:40 AM

no change for me here at home, still at 0-1 bar. 2 if you consider the tiny one directly under the triangle a bar.

thanks anyways im sure it'll come in handy in other places.
i need to update my prl , maybe that'll help

+1. Sprint phone trying to upgrade from 1.12.00

tried restarting the upgrade prog and it gave the same result twice.

Using Vista...

More than likely the fact that you're trying to upgrade using vista is your problem. The rom flashers don't like vista without doing a lot of crap to it.

ivan1.ruiz 07-14-2007 10:46 AM

works fine!!

i got it and it works just fine.. Thanks for everything!!!

rbinkley 07-14-2007 10:49 AM

Alright... I had been using Hetels 1.41 and upgraded to pheonx' for "kicks" and giggles. At home I didn't notice a difference, but I live in Indy, so you pretty much get reception anywhere residential. At work I can say that it didn't change terribly much, maybe.... maaaybe it went up a little bit, staying more on one bar than zero... but still from what I can tell no huge difference. But it does work fine with Verizon.

saqer 07-14-2007 12:10 PM

i also live in Indy and have sprint, so I get service everywhere even in the most unusual of places. Anyways, didn't notice any large difference, but nothing's gotten worse.

gmdphd 07-14-2007 12:22 PM

Sprint PPC6700 user with 2.06.00 WWE ROM. I just upgraded to Radio Version 1.41 and it went very smoothly, no problems at all. Just follow the instructions on page 2 in this thread. In fact, you get very easy instructions to follow when you run the RUU file that is included. It even instructs you on how to put the phone into bootloader mode.

Thank you, Phoenix, for the hard work.

jschurawlow 07-14-2007 01:02 PM

Ok now for the additional inquiries...

Guys when using the newer radio does this appear to improve battery life at all? Or does it worsen it?

phoenx06 07-14-2007 03:00 PM

I get alot better battery life, and I cant give exact stats, but my wifi seems a bit faster. Much better signal than original radio, but I not much more from the 1.27 radio. I was using the 1.27 radio for awhile, and I am getting more battery than I was then. I also just did a prl update for the first time ever a week or two ago, and that helped alot also

Jmckinney1976 07-14-2007 03:05 PM

What is prl and how do I update it?

phoenx06 07-14-2007 03:08 PM

PRL is your preferred roaming list. It is the list of towers your phone has to look for. By updating it, it gives your phone all the latest data on new towers and evdo service. I believe for verizon you just dial #22899 (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I tend to forget things, lol)

Edit: I thought I had it wrong. I stand corrected it is *22899

boubert 07-14-2007 03:30 PM

well this is what iv got.

before upgrade sitting in my living room 1 bar and EVDO battery usage = 1 hour of constant internet in EVDO at 1 bar 80% batt left over

after upgrade sitting in my living room 3 bars and EVDO battery usage = 1 hour of constant internet in EVDO at 3 bars 90% batt left over

so i would say thats a 3 fold improvement on signal strength and a 10% increase in battery life ( if i were to do the math its probably less than 10% but i dont feel like doing math right now ) so 3 thumbs up and kudos on this one

it seems that every few days we see a development that makes our device more and more bullet proof " ROM's, Radios, and more apps and toys than ever" i am now convinced that the PPC 6700 may indeed be the device that first achieves true A.I. and takes over the human race! and that is so FREAKIN COOL!!! LOL

cheeb 07-14-2007 05:15 PM

much props....my apartments get NO sprint signal....always roaming....or the EV sign and no bar ...i can confirm that i have 2-3 bars on EV and if im in roam i get full bars....may actually stay here afterall instead of moving...

btw....colonels new rom with updated nk.nbf file definitely improved my reception also for some reason)...

Where, oh where...

Can someone help me out here?
Okay, I put the phone in bootloader mode, simple...
Ran the 'radio RUU' thingie...
But when it let me know what my current system is and what it was gonna upgrade to all the fields were blank. I tried it twice and on both attempts it gave me an Error 150 - Unable to upgrade utillity, I think it said... My current system is a Sprint 6700 with the official 2.06 ROM and I'm running on the 1.27 radio. The instructions seemed simple enough, yet I managed to screw up somewhere. Can anyone help me out with figuring out this problem? Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can give me.

Sounds like the radio file is not present. Verify that it is after extracting. One other thing, make sure you are running the APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe.

I'll try it again and let you know the result. also, I had a bit of a problem etting out of Bootloader Mode. I tried using that ExitBootloader program and it said something like, "disable Activesync USB Hub". I don't know how to do that, and I guess I got lucky because I tried pressing the same keys that got me into Bootloader Mode again and they got me out of it...the phone came back on like it would if I were simply soft reseting. Might that have something to do with why the process didn't go through?

The same thing happened to me; I just closed & ran APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe again and it worked just fine.

Mikelundi 07-14-2007 06:41 PM

How do I disable Activesync? That way, I won't have to be so afraid of Bootloader Mode, lol?

TucanoRC 07-14-2007 09:10 PM

Phoenx06,
I tried that number but message stated the number is no longer in service. I would to try to updte the PRL on my phone, does anyone know the number for this option for VZW?

TIA

rlith 07-14-2007 09:50 PM

It's *22899 not #

Jmckinney1976 07-14-2007 09:51 PM

*22899, not #22899. In the past I've noticed I have to wait 24 hours or so after updating before I stop getting that message. Don't ask me why but it happens almost every time I update my rom, radio, etc.

Mikelundi 07-14-2007 11:33 PM

I'm trying get myself out of Bootloadre Mode... How do I go about doing that? I tried using the Exit Bootloader program once again and it keeps saying "Cannot open USB Port. Please make sure that connection in Activesync is disabled..."

I have my phone craddled, but as far as disabling Activesync, how do I do that so I can use this program? I'm operating on Windows Vista using Mobile Media Center if that means anything..

Torx 07-15-2007 01:46 AM

im getting FULL bars throughout the house now!
holy crap.

betalix 07-15-2007 05:17 AM

I am having the same issue that elosogrande7076 had. I get the message "error 150: rom upgrade utility error. This ROM upgrade utility is not designed for your device." This is on an XV6700. I had it in bootloader mode. I did notice that the utility never returns any information about current device versions or what is to be flashed to the device. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and may be rewarded with copious amounts of chocolate :!:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERIN LIETH THE EDIT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VISTA...it was VISTA. I tried the upgrade form an XP machine and it worked swimmingly. I know I saw someone on here mention that in a previous post.. I cant recall who..but thank you oh gracious helper!
:D

Wisdom3G 07-15-2007 10:52 AM

Mikelundi and betalix!! Take the new radio image and extract it to a noID upgrade folder. If you don't have one or dont know what I am talking about, here it is  ! Then simply click on the upgrade tool: APACUpgradeUt_noID and sit back! As for getting your phone out of bootloader mode have you tried to simply press the reset button? OR hard reset by holding both soft keys and pressing reset at the same time.

TucanoRC 07-15-2007 11:17 AM

Hell Ya! 1 or 2 bars before update and now i get full bars!

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 04:19 PM

sorry for this stupid question guys lol im new to this but where can i get this file??? i almost read every single post on this and cant find it ??

edit; ok never mind i just realized i had to be logged in to see the file lol
anyway when i try to open the first file an error pop up comes up and says;
"RUU has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"... any help with this?? i never got to see any installation windows or nothing.. im running windows xp sp2

luv2chill 07-15-2007 04:44 PM

It's attached to the first post in the thread. You need to be logged in to see it.

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 04:53 PM

thanks man i realised that... what about the error report?? is it my computer? i havent seen anyone else getting this error...

luv2chill 07-15-2007 04:55 PM

Not sure about that. Do you have another PC you can test on? Sounds like maybe you've got some screwed up windows files or something. Be sure to try a restart also.

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 05:12 PM

ok so i made another user account and now it worked..i got the program running.... but now im getting the error that the people above were getting.. lol dam i have really bad luck i guess lol it just shows all the blank spots..do i have to disable active sync?

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 05:23 PM

when my phone is in bootloader mode it says v1.00 at the bottom.... could that be the problem?? and where do i upgrade that?

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 05:36 PM

ok.. so i disable usb connections on active sync and now its working...28% so far.. i will post results and differences!

luv2chill 07-15-2007 05:50 PM

sweet, and no you don't need to touch your bootloader... stand pat with 1.00.

sinoloco1 07-15-2007 06:05 PM

the upgrading its done... and so far im getting one bar less in my house... ill check out other places where i get 1 bar later and post the results..

schettj 07-15-2007 07:11 PM

Updated my radio at the same time as flashing a new 3.5 1.01 rom - no problems flashing, working fine, no real change in signal as far as I can tell... but no badness either.

weedahoe 07-15-2007 08:39 PM

I did the upgrade and show the correct version. I didnt have any issues doing the upgrade. I usually get good signal where I am at (home and around town) so I cant give any results so far. But at work and in my office I usually get 1-2 bars so I'll edit this tomorrow and let everyone know how it is working.

On a side note, it would be normal for most people to see better battery life if they are getting more signal due to the phone having to use less battery to keep in contact with the towers. I guess what I am trying to say is the more signal you have the less battery it is going to use and obviously the less signal you have the more battery it is going to use. I hope that make snse to everyone.
