I am trying to upgrade the radio from Windows Vista, but it isn't work. However I updated a phone that we purchased that hadn't been upgraded to the latest UT Starcom. So I did that update first which updated the radio and the ROM. This process worked fine on Windows Vista (Run with Admin privileges). Then I updated to the latest Kitchen and that worked fine, but I just can't seem to get this radio to upgrade. I keep getting error 150 this ROM isn't for this device. Using a different RUU I get the country code error. I'm downloading a Windows XP virtual machine now to see if that will help.

I tried to upgrade it initially with Vista, but I kept getting error messages too. But when i tried it with XP it worked perfectly the first time[/b][/quote]

One more data point...
Got a new PPC-6700 from Sprint today, replacing my last unit that went DOA. It came with Radio 1.27 and Bootloader 2.02. I downloaded the 1.41 radio, followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. I'm now on Radio 1.41. My system is XP SP2. As for signal, I'm currently in the basement of my house in an area where it's barely a signal even outside, so right now I'm getting nothing - as per usual. |
Upgraded, signal seems to be holding steady, where it used to be going back and forth between roam and non-roam.
Hopefully the battery life will be better and I will get better signal in the long run. |
the PRI update is here
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-onlyp...light,pri.html i dont like when my phone rings through so i have not applied it, but i know for a fact it works. |
PRIs ARE CARRIER SPECIFIC!!!!!
PLEASE do not mess with that link unless you are with Sprint. Verizon doesn't offer a newer PRI than 1.12_002, meaning that their latest ROM release (from April) only includes the update to 1.12_002. The only phones that would come with anything newer thant that would be ones that shipped with it. In my experience, PRI updates are mostly meaningless. The only exception to that was on the Sprint model where Sprint accidentally turned DDTM off in a particular update (meaning incoming calls would not interrupt an active EV-DO data session). People complained so they had to release a PRI update to fix it. Anyway PRI stands for Product Release Instructions and in the CDMA world is a way for the manufacturer to apply carrier-specific customizations to the CDMA radio nvm. It is a helpful standard to identify what "set" of configuration settings a particular handset is running with. But it is extremely carrier-specific, so please don't try to apply a PRI from any other carrier or one you just find floating out there on the net. |
slot cycle index
http://ppc6700users.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=522 also don't forget to change your slot cycle index from factory so your phone will ring through faster. This will revert to factory after updating the carrier rom.
|
Hmm... my phone already has PRI 1.19_003... I haven't tested for EVDO ringthru though.

I've got two xv6700's sitting right here. One is mine which has the following:
Radio: 1.41.00 PRL 50855 PRI 1.12_002 The other unit is for someone else that I am setting up for them: Radio: 1.41.00 PRL 50722 (no service currently to update roaming) PRI 1.14_002 So apparently this Verizon phone has a higher PRI version than mine or anyone elses. Anybody have any ideas? I did at first flash the phone with the UT Starcom official 2.2 AKU which did include the PPST.exe in the update. I just checked the PPST file and the cab file included was 1.12. So this phone must have had it from somewhere else. Quote:

@wasserja - I'm sorry if this wasn't clear from my previous post, but yes, the one with PRI 1.14_002 shipped with that PRI from the factory. There is no way to extract it from the phone, and probably no need to either. PRI changes are usually really insignificant.

no success
I updated it to the latest, but I didn't see a difference here at work.. maybe on my way home will be different.

Ok... I have seen some of the guys on here post up that this radio upgrade won't do anything for us at all... I have seen the terms placebo effect, etc. NOW, while I understand that a new radio driver won't make towers just magically spring out of the ground - I think it alters the way the PRL file is read. My reasoning is conclusive in my testing. Currently I am sitting in a service plaza (rest area) right about mile marker 53 on the West Virginia Turnpike (Interstate 77). I drive truck for a living, and I tend to drive through here A LOT. Every trip I have ever made through here, I lost ALL service - Sprint and Roaming included - between mile marker 73 to somewhere around the 40 mile marker. Nearly 35 miles of my trip is dead silent with nary a peep from a tower roaming or otherwise. Last week sometime I flashed the radio back to the 1.27 version because I had originally attributed some stability issues to the new radio (later found out it was something different...) Anywho. Today as I was driving along the Turnpike and I noticed that just like usual, my signal was gone at the 73MM. After 20 miles of nothing I got the idea to stop and reflash the 1.41 radio just for giggles. I expected no gain from it at all really since I could never get ANY service through here. Before I flashed, there was no service at all. After the flash back to 1.41 - I had full service. It is roaming service mind you, but it is FULL SERVICE. The debug menu shows the RX Power at (-65db - -73db) and the Ec/Io is at a nearly steady 7-8.
WOW, I figured something was screwy there. So I flashed back to 1.27 and confirmed no service again. Back to 1.41 and all is well! So though this radio update may just be driver tweaks to the cell chip, it obviously does something else or there is no way I should have went from nothing to all like that. Like I said above, maybe it just reads the PRL file differently or something but it really does work. Matter of fact I am online right now through whoever's service I am using ATM tethered to my laptop. Current SID# is 4379 ( I will look it up later to figure out what service I am on...) Anyway, just my two cents. Perhaps somebody with a better background in cell tech can step up and explain this little wonder. Later ~Krayzie |
Just checked the PRL and this is the info on the tower's SID I am on...

Anyone else noticing that the phone freezes sometimes when dialing out now?
If I pull the phone out of suspend mode and go to dial a number, it will freeze once I tell it to dial and I have to soft reset it. Its pretty annoying. |
Actually I was just on my way in here to post my most recent findings... My EV-DO sessions are hard locking on me. They are not locking the whole unit up, but the data sessions refuse to send or receive packets and require a soft reset to make the connection work again. I can put the phone in flight mode for like 20 seconds, and that will log the session out (obviously since it kills the radio) but until I soft reset, I cannot connect to the data network anymore as it will error out. My notebook as a general rule stays tethered 24/7 whether its moving packets or not - its just on and ready to use. So with the new radio I am finding that I need to soft reset every hour or less to get the internet working once again... Flashing back to 1.27 remedies this issue for me.
Its a love/hate scenario here. Of course I love having the phone working ALL the time without 24 soft resets a day, so its back to the old radio for me. |
I think I'm going back to the old radio too.
|
Hetal's link is broken...
does the Apache Radio 1.27 Sprint.zip in the Updated Radios folder work? |
Double post...
>.< |
3 Attachment(s)
I am not sure about the one on the server. I attached the one I just used to flash with to this post. Its only the radio_.nbf file, so you will have to drop it into a kitchen update folder.

Ok so i just did this Upgrade and all went well, did a hard reset in the end 'cause i was already cleaning out my phone so i already had all my data baked up right before doing this, and it restarted the phone and in the little red fonts it did say 1.41 and I also did the PRL *22899 thing right after.
Now i don't really c all that amazing increase in signal like some others have stated, but it has improved a wee bit better. Just figured i'll put that up. I'm using xv6700 btw w/ stock verizon rom |
Anyone have actual numbers for reception improvement?
Kicking myself for not doing this before I upgraded my radio... I should know better!
Has anyone done a reception comparison before/after upgrading their radio? I'm not talking about "I had 1 bar, now I have 3" comparison, but actual RF numbers from FieldTrial.exe or the equivalent. My phone has "more bars" in a few places than it used to, but that's just a graphical representation and it may be just a different scale in the stack. Since I rarely get anywhere where my reception drops to less than -90dB anyway, I haven't really seen a verifiable difference. Now, if someone says they were pulling -95dB before the upgrade and -75dB after, that would be a verifiable improvement. |
Hey thanx for the upload it was successful and i see an improvement. :-)

anyone having a problem with txt messaging after updating to 1.41? Well I don't have anything else running that didn't come with the verizon version. I get txt messages but if its more than 160 letters (at this point it would come in as 2 separate txt) it won't come through. the phone does wake up from sleep mode as if is about to receive the txt, but the txt never comes through. But as I stated earlier, if its 160 letters or under (in which case it'll just b a simgle txt message) it'll come through. Also mms does come through as well, no prob there either. when a txt is split is when the problem occurs, however I can send txt with 160+ letters in it and the other person will receive them, just I can't receive txt 160+. I've never had a prob like this before

Upgrade worked great for me! Updated roaming too afterwards... Not much of a difference but what the hell...
|

Radio Upgrade
I can confirm the radio upgrade works like a champion. I will test it at work in my office tomorrow that will be the true test. :)

Krayziepop,
Sorry for the older post (Posted: Fri Jul 13, 2007 10:23 pm), but do you (or anyone) know of the code for getting information like this (stats) from verizon. thx Not sure just why, but after I flashed this I needed to reprovision the phone before the net would work. That and one extra soft reset did the trick. FastRX8 wrote: What are you, or others using to get that kind of detailed info? Is it a program or on the phone and you have to know where to look? I'd like to check mine before the upgrade to see how it changes. ##DEBUG# (on Sprint) will bring up the FieldTrial menu which will give you all of the relevant stats - SID, NID, Power... all the goodies. |
This radio ROM upgrade absolutely 100% is better. I almost never have service in my house, and now I can surf and make phone calls with no problems. I am sold! Thanks for all the hard work!
PS: The upgrade was a piece of cake to install. |
Dunno if this has been asked, but has anyone lost roaming data with this upgrade?
I noticed i was recently getting a lot of 1013 cannot data roam errors recently. However, I also noticed on my new refurb that the PRI (not PRL) was out of date. Oddlyl enough, a hard reset fixed that. so far the data roaming seems better, but now i'm wondering... |
Guess I am like several others - Can't ge the upgrade to "take." Put the phone in Bootloader, plug it into the cradle and I immediately get a XP window "found new hardware." I dismiss this, continue with the upgrade, "gathering device data" then the window comes up that states "current Rom....New Rom..." this window contains no data. I click the upgrade button, then after a few seconds I get the Error 150 Window.
Have tried immediately going through the upgrade again and get the same error messages. Have rebooted the computer, and tried again, with same results. Sprint PPC6700 - Windows XP Pro Suggestions? |
I'm with you man, can't receive two-part text messages now after this upgrade. My gf says she sends them, but if they're over 160 characters, I don't get any of it. I have Verizon, she has Alltel. Its definitely do to the new radio somehow, problem didn't exist before. Can anyone address this?
Quote:
|
No but I'll tell you you can address this yourself by flashing back to the Verizon standard radio ROM (version 1.10) and testing to see if the problem is resolved. If you need 1.10 it's in the most recent ROM package for verizon at www.utstar.com.
Aside from that there's nothing we can really do about it. We can't edit or hack radio ROMs. So it's a sort of "if it works for you, use it" kind of thing. |
tried a couple weeks ago w/ vista and it refused to work, but on an xp machine it worked great first try. thanks.
|
nice i get 1 bar on my ofice now woohooo i was getting nothing and my battery would die from looking for service
thanks for this update |
I updated mine without any problems using vista...
|
updated mine with no problem on xp x64. Just dont notice any difference.
|
Does activesync need to be installed on the computer to do this? I don't have access to a computer with Windows XP and active sync installed(I have Vista on my computer) and I don't want to install active sync on a friends computer if it is not necessary.
Thanks |
Upgraded to 1.41, but considering going back to old 1.1 ROM
I have an XV6700 (Verizon, running Helmi's AKU 3.5 1.0.3 Kitchen)
I just upgraded to Radio 1.41 last night (was on Radio 1.1), and it looks like I am seeing slightly better reception. I don't know about battery drain yet, but ... I have seen what appears to be a significant reduction in EVDO data speeds. I am not sure yet whether this is a Radio ROM or AKU 3.5 Kitchen issue. Prior to the 1.0.3 Kitchen and Radio upgrade, I was running Kirvin's AKU 3.5 C&S4AA and Verizon's Radio 1.1. Yesterday, I was seeing regular EVDO download speeds of 470-550 Kbps. Now, the fastest EVDO download I have seen is 260 Kbps (averaging around 140 Kbps) at the same site (dslreports.com). I would like to try going back to Radio 1.1 to test this out, but where can I get an installer for it? ¿GotJazz? |
