I reflashed colonel's rom a few weeks ago and since my reception just hasnt been the same at work (dropped calls half the time) and driving i have to have it on speakerphone to stay away from my ear (not a problem with BT) and its just been crappy i check ppc geeks finally after 3 weeks of it being really bad and this is here..
just finished and 3 bars where i had 0-1 at work :-D
thanks so much cant wait to try on the way home lol

phoenx06 07-13-2007 03:41 PM

Thanks guys, I'm really glad I could help you all. I knew some people were having some trouble, so I thought I would just simplify it for you guys. Thanks, hope I could help

w0rdie 07-13-2007 04:11 PM

Cellular South user... happy to report that this worked flawlessly. One to Two more bars of signal strength inside my office (metal roof). :D

Redtygr 07-13-2007 04:13 PM

but will it hard reset everythin back to factory AKU that i have?

phoenx06 07-13-2007 04:20 PM

No, nothing will change but the radio. No hard reseting takes place. Nothing will change but radio. Just do a soft reset when the pc tells you to do a hard reset (so don't hard reset, instead soft). It will then soft reset, losing no data in the process, keeping the exact same aku with all your stuff still in it, just changing the radio stack.

spencemarch1 07-13-2007 04:37 PM

I'm getting a rom 150 upgrade utility error. What am I doing wrong in the installation? I use verizon. It says this isn't designed for my device but I have a 6700.

Did you put it in bootloader mode first? Also, as soon as it gives you that error, dont even unplug your device and run it again, should work

Try this

rbinkley 07-13-2007 04:42 PM

The Hetal Radio 1.41 was on the ppcgeeks ftp. I also installed that one, is it any different than yours?

Very nice indeed!

What are you, or others using to get that kind of detailed info? Is it a program or on the phone and you have to know where to look?
I'd like to check mine before the upgrade to see how it changes.

Error 150 on install

Hi - I've tried to install this several times over, with the same result - after I click the 'upgrade' button, it produces a message (on the main upgrade screen with the 'bootmode illustration') Error 150: ROM UPGRADE UTILITLY ERROR with further text about "This ROM Upgrade Utility is not designed for your device..."

In reading the posts, it seems like the fix is to simply re-run the APACUpgradeUT_noID.exe file - I've done this 4 times in a row with the same result.

I'm very confident that that my PPC is in boot loader mode - I've flashed the ROM 10-20 times at least, and it ready USB - Version 2.02 once I plug it in to the USB cable

FYI, the 'Upgrade' screen (where you click 'Upgrade') has the image version, extended image version. and Radio image version fields completely blank on both the 'from' and 'to' sections. Is this normal?

I'm using the Colonels final 3.5 ROM for Sprint - I just reloaded the ROM this AM. I'm wondering if perhaps this upgrade won't work with that ROM loaded?

Anyone else seeing these issues and/or have any ideas?

I haven't seen it/used it so I'm not sure. I cant acces the ftp from work right now, I'll check it out later. I'm not sure what files it has in it compared to mine, and I haven't used that one, so I can't promise that one works correctly though. However, I've used mine on my own phone, and know that it works properly. So, I'll look at the differences, but mine works, so I'll stick with it

The feilds being blank is a normal thing, thats not a problem. I'm not sure what could be going wrong though. Just some food for thought though, my bootloader version is 1.02, so maybe 2.02 doesn't work with this. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

And from all of you that the upgrades has worked for, what are your bootloader versions?

Another thing, are you trying to do this from Vista?

rbinkley 07-13-2007 04:50 PM

I am loading yours to see if there's any difference, I'll go into work tomorrow and see what happens, I usually have 0-1 bars in my office.

My bootloader is hit and miss if I use a USB multi-port. For a while I was having a huge headache trying the USB port on the side of the LCD monitor. Finally connected directly to the pc, and it worked.

Error 150

Hi Pheonix - Props and thx for the quick reply as well as all of your efforts here... FYI, my laptop is Win XP Pro SP2, all updates etc etc etc.

Not sure wassup with these errors - are there other Sprint users out there who have got this to work? Other Colonel 3.5 ROM users?

I'll post again if/when I learn more... JKT

Another thing that should work.
Since you reloaded your ROM this morning, you obviously had some version of the files that where able to upgrade your phone.
Go to that folder from Colonels final ROM, and copy the file that you used over to the Phoenx06 Radio 1.41 folder.
ROMUpgradeUt.exe or APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe.
That should do the trick. I've done this several times when I had issues w/ error codes.

phoenx06 07-13-2007 05:14 PM

FastRX8 is correct. If you have used a RUU file before that you know works, you can swap them out with each other. Just don't delete any of the other files, lol

I am up and running on one of the original Sprint (red logo) phones. Upgraded it this afternoon. All went well with the upgrade and the phone is running great so far with the new radio. I updated the the new 3.3 firmware Tuesday of last week and the phone has been rock solid. It should of come this way when Sprint first released it.

strwrsxprt 07-13-2007 07:01 PM

Sorry for the horribly noobish question. I just upgraded my radio (I think), how do I check the version number to verify that it worked? Thanks.

Using Vista...

With my Sprint phone it lists the Radio version when I reset. But you can also do it within WM5:

Start>Settings>System Tab>Device Information

It says in there what Radio Version you have.

lowbud 07-13-2007 07:14 PM

I'm not sure why, but this doesn't work for me, it goes through the process normally, however it is rather quick, when it says to reset, I do a soft reset and my radio is still 1.27, I've tried like 5 times, and well, it's not working for me.

ppc-6700, (sprint obviously) running my own custom aku 3.5, and everything else works perfectly.

It seems like it just skips through the process, because it jumps from the screen saying checking existing rom, then bang, says complete and reset, but it's still 1.27...

<edit>

I didn't have activesync installed, installed activesync, and ran through it again, all is working perfectly now

</edit>

OK thanks. It still says I'm using radio 1.10. I guess I'll have to try again. Thanks for the quick reply.

Edit: Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, because I'm guessing it's something simple but this is my first time flashing with software not directly from HTC (having to put it in bootloader mode). I put it in bootloader mode, run the Apache upgrade utility and it just sits forever at "checking information on your device...". If I just hit Upgrade anyway with all the fields blank it says it was successful, but it doesn't flash it. I'm trying to upgrade my XV6700 from the official AKU 2.2 and radio 1.10.

knightcaptain 07-13-2007 08:47 PM

im on telus, just upgrade the radio and so far its been good just havent noticed any improvement in signal strength yet

spencemarch1 07-13-2007 09:13 PM

Internet connection problems

I was finally able to get the radio to install. Everything seems ok so far although I notice now that when I connect to my wireless wifi, I can't pull up any web pages. I keep getting the error The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again. Any ideas?

morganpe 07-13-2007 09:42 PM

I just did it - hard to tell if it has made a difference but it certanly didn't hurt it. I'll know better when I go to work next time.

I also can report that I have no problems with wifi.
May be the previous poster should do another soft reset that's what I have to do periodically anyway.

Anyway thanks -

When the phone is booting up (After a soft reset) it should display some diagnostic information in red lettering on the boot screen... For example on my Sprint 6700 when booting up it is the center line of text on the right hand side of the bottom of the screen.

On another note, Upgraded my phone and it worked perfectly, No errors or anything, After the soft reset the change was noted on the diagnostic information that the upgrade worked. I noticed that I am getting better signal at my house, Which rox, But Im really waiting to go to my GF's house where normally I got barely any signal, Thats gonna be the real test... Anyways, Thanks for the upload Phoenx06!

Internet connection problems

Is there a setting somewhere that could be turned off on my phone which is preventing me from getting to the internet? Wifi connection is fine.

el_venga 07-13-2007 10:59 PM

it worked perfectly with my ppc 6700 (sprint) with kirvins nojunk 3.5 rom, but still havent seen that it gets more bars. i did it during morning, i'll let you guys know if i notice anything. thx phoenx06!

Krayziepop 07-13-2007 11:23 PM

Not sure just why, but after I flashed this I needed to reprovision the phone before the net would work. That and one extra soft reset did the trick.

I'd like to check mine before the upgrade to see how it changes.

##DEBUG# (on Sprint) will bring up the FieldTrial menu which will give you all of the relevant stats - SID, NID, Power... all the goodies.

Glad I could help guys!

I have been running it for a week or so now. Cant seem to see a difference in bars or reception. I am guessing its same thing as yours. Would be curious to see if u see any differences tho given we are both on Verizon and it was originally a Sprint version of the radio I believe?

phoenx06 07-13-2007 11:42 PM

This one was originally a Bell Mobility radio upgrade

phoenx06 07-13-2007 11:45 PM

Hey, just for some extra info, since you guys are taking the time to upgrade your radio stacks, you should also take some time to update your phones prl (preferred roaming list). This updates your phones to have all the latest towers and evdo areas.

Rebel3530 07-14-2007 01:04 AM

I got myself in a little jam here. I was screwing around with the install process of the radio upgrade and then my phone reset by itself. Now the phone won't turn on at all. If you look hard, the screen says "SERIAL" at the top and "v1.02" at the bottom. I hooked it up to the cradle to see if that would do anything and then the word "SERIAL" changed to "USB". Can someone please help me?

blazingwolf 07-14-2007 01:10 AM

Your stuck in bootloader mode. Do a search and you will find a couple of threads telling you how to get out of it.

Not only that, but you flashed the new bootloader too. Why do you kids keep jacking with this. Find us in the chat room tomorow so we can maybe get your phone running again.

Rebel3530 07-14-2007 01:32 AM

I downloaded the mtty file to try to get it working again and it did nothing. Don't really know what to do from here.

Hello. I have been following the work of this site, as well as XDA developers and many others for some time now. The content on this site is much more than any other site but other sites help to fill in gaps. I am a quick learner and am no NOOB to this stuff! I have self taught myself everything (mostly) all the way back to the original kitchens. N E ways. I have recently upgraded to the new radio. Everything went fine and took but, I have actually lost all reception now! I have no bars and 1X in my taskbar. Any Ideas??!!
