XV6700 Converted to Alltel Carrier
I recently bought a XV6700 (Verizon) and would like to use it on my Alltel network. I have read about others doing it, but I have a few questions I would like answered:
1. Does the 3rd post still apply? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12001 2. I would like to put WM6/WM6.1 on my device. Would I be better off cooking the rom or using one of the latest releases and switching it to Alltel in BuildOS? 3. After setting up the phone, do I need to even go to the Alltel store for anything or can everything be done over the phone? 4. With the VX6700, does the latest iPhone theme work? If someone could just clarify these questions, that would be great. I appreciate the help. Happy Holidays! Last edited by Obloxeon; 12-21-2008 at 08:02 PM. |

Re: VX6700 Converted to Alltel Carrier
1. Yes you can.
2. Use the BuildOs with build 20748. I find that to be the best. 3. You can do it over the phone. If they say "This isn't an Alltel phone". Tell them "It says Alltel when I turn it on". 4. There are several iPhone Themes you can use with the 6700 as well as some other themes which are really very Powerful and creative. Hope this helps you. I know you will enjoy your PPC modding experience

Re: XV6700 Converted to Alltel Carrier
Build 20748 has the best dlls and system files to make it stable. Just because things are newest don't mean they are the 'best'. Trust me on that one, that build is is the most stable. All of the custom roms are completly 'unlocked'. Meaning no stupid carrier blocks. And the only ROM with the issue of WiFi and Phone is the very first original WM5 ROM that cam with the phone. Even, the second offical ROM they removed that...

Any other things I need to know when cooking the rom? Once loaded in the kitchen, it seem so overwhelming with what options you are given for software. Anything that you would recommend off bat for functionality and looks?

Kind hard to right out. But I have a great 'recipie" that I used on my Apache and it ran great. Would you like the config text?

Re: XV6700 Converted to Alltel Carrier
I just got a new(er) 6700 off of ebay..because I thought my old one was bricked(turns out it was just a bad SD card) I am on alltel and the phone is a verizon phone with bootloader 2.05. I tried the bootloader downgrade several times..but being on vista..it did not work. I reflashed the official Verizon rom AKU3.3, then using ppckitchen flashed it several times..and discovered that the best rom was based on the 20748. I called up alltel...went to tech suport..DO NOT GO TO ACTIVATE NEW PHONE PROMPT ON THE PHONE..that would put you to sales and they will tell you you will have to get a data plan in order to activate the phone. Tech support will do it no questions asked. When I tried to activate the phone online..it said I could not do it because it was another carriers phone. Once again..tech support did not care. You will need to go into ##778..edit..pascode 000000 and change some settings there. If you do not know what they are..tech support will be able to talk you through them. Hope this helps.

I had to switch to an XP computer to downgrade my bootloader from the 2.05 on there to 2.02, then I flashed the official Alltel rom as well as the Alltel extended rom. Got my phone activated over the phone no problem. |
