No, that's a database - you would not want that in ROM, ROM is read only.
You can copy your pim.vol file from the internal store to a storage card as a quick and dirty backup. To restore just copy the file back to internal store, overwriting the one that's there, and then soft-reset. Only works if the AKU (the OS version) is pretty close to the same as it was when you backed the file up, when you restore... |

My favorite method of returning contacts after a restore is configuring Mail2web to auto download the contacts from their free push mail exchange server
