New Kitchen (Helmi_APAC_WM3.5_NEW_Kitchen_R1) Bugs

Here's a bug collection thread for the new kitchen R1. I'm going to try to gather all posted bugs into this first message, so folks don't need to poke all over to find them.

These have been addressed in the next release...

Quote:
OEM\Optional_ZIP_Application:
The "option.xml" is missing a "d" in "Standard".

====================

OEM\Optional_Spb Pocket Plus 3.2.0 QVGA:
"initflashfiles.txt" is missing the line...
Code:
Directory("\Windows\Icons"):-File("tab12.png","\Windows\tab12.png")
...which allows tabs to have icons.

====================

Voice Command:
I get an error at startup about a missing "VoiceCmd" file. Since that file can't be included in the Kitchen, maybe the free Voice Command package should be the default.
Remaining issues...

====================

HTC64_Extended_ROM_Tool.exe:
Still has improper paths to the ROM for me. Specifically, path is set as...
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Custom ROM Tools\Helmi_APAC_WM3.5_NEW_Kitchen_R0\temp\nk.nba
...but I don't even have an "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator" folder.

Setting such specific file locations seem bad. I'm trying to use other paths (like using just "nk.nba"), but I keep getting a can't find fat16 file error unless I set a very specific path.

Thus far in testing I can only use paths that includes a full directory path from the drive letter. For instance...
"C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\Phone Roms\Helmi_APAC_WM3.5_NEW_Kitchen_R1\temp"
"\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\Phone Roms\Helmi_APAC_WM3.5_NEW_Kitchen_R1\temp"

But if I adjust the CreateROM.bat file to call the ROM encoder differently...

Code:
REM CALL ..\temp\HTC64_Extended_ROM_Tool.exe
CD ..\Temp
CALL HTC64_Extended_ROM_Tool.exe
Then the generic paths...
"nk.nbf"
"nk.nba"
...work.

I'm not 100% sure if that change effects other CreateROM.bat processing as of yet though.

Some other annoyances, since the ROM encoder is copied from \TOOLS to \temp each time, saving your changes when running CreateROM.bat will have no effect. Be sure you save your files to "\TOOLS" if you want changes to stick.

Also, it seems to remember the last directory location it processed a file at, if you have multiple copies of the tool around be aware that it may not be processing what you think it is.

====================

OEM\O2 Plus:
If you select O2 Plus, you have to uncheck
O2 Calendar
O2 Last Call
O2 Running Programs
(these load the same DLLs O2 Plus loads, leading to a file exists error when you build)

and you have to check:

(these load additional DLLs - if you don't select them, your PPC will lock up on it's initial boot)
O2 Meters
O2 Sound Profiles

[the easiest way to fix this is to copy o2Meters.dll and o2profile.dll into the optional_o2 directory - then you either select O2 Plus and get it all or you select the individual components.]
Additionally, o2opr.dll (for the divert option) is not present in the optional_O2 directory, so I imagine the Divert Profile in O2 options won't work so well.

====================

OEM\Optional_TrayLaunch:
Blank icons appear if any of the following packages are not installed...
-Optional_TaskMgr&RegEditor
-Optional_Total Commander
-Optional_acbToggleBT
-Optional_psShutXP

====================

OEM\Optional_OneNoteMobile=12.0.4518.1010:
Installing this results in an extra set of Office icons, one in "Program Files" and one in "Program Files\One Note". The icons have different images, but I think thats due to the OneNote ones actually pointing to little "27k" stub executables that call the regular office exe's.

---

I didn't include the Office that was in the system but included only the OneNote OEM. When I tried to open word/excel/power point, it just throws an error

Win32Eception at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx ()...

But the One Note doesn't have any problems. Only the other three apps. I guess they are dependent on the Office app.

====================

OEM\Optional_Tweaker:
Selecting Save results in...
"An unexpected error has occurred in HTCustom.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information."
...tweaks seem to take effect, but the error makes me cautious.

====================

OEM\Optional_TaskMgr&RegEditor:
Does not associate Regeditior with .reg files.

====================

MMS:

The Verizon stuff should just setup your data and stuff. I actually have not had it confirmed if it works correctly. You do not need it, but if it works it saves you from doing it manually.
I confirm that it doesn't. None of the ## codes worked for me.

====================

Activesync:
I'm having some Activesync connection problems. Activesync on the PC doesn't connect when phone is connected (though I hear the USB connection sound). Attempting to start Activesync on the phone results in nothing happening (under r0 the program name would show in the title bar but nothing else).

In this state I need to put phone in to USB sync mode before I can reflash the ROM.

Reflashing to an older 3.5 ROM immediately resolves this.

====================

Notification Errors:

When I got home tonight, I dropped my phone in the cradle and started getting a stream of errors...

"Notification Error: Cannot execute repilog.exe"
"Notification Error: Cannot execute ..."

...they went away after I closed the topmost repilog.exe one, but there were 5-6 of them altogether.

====================

OEM\Optional_Yuma-6700hacks:

Had that problem too, I think i had to go into ppc6700 hacks and check remove phone skin (tab 7) (soft reset)

edit: yep that was is, I just unchecked it and reset and had the white screen.

I see you are using the other hacks program, which I dont have any experience with, but i'm sure its a similar registry change.

====================

Internet Connection Sharing:
Well, everything seems to work really well in this ROM EXCEPT... Internet Sharing doesnt function for me. It says connected on the phone, but the PC cannot resolve any hostnames with it... It doesn't seem to want to grab an IP address or any DNS servers. Any suggestions?

------

I was having the same issue with internet connection sharing but in windows 2000. It started working once i disabled bluetooth before connecting.

hope that help..

====================

2) Internet Explorer functions as if it is a file explorer. It will not go to the internet even if I have a data or wifi connection running.

====================

3) I cannot install any programs to my 6700 after the flash. I just get the message stating that the install was Unsuccessful. This happens when either trying to install via cab on the unit or from the PC.

---

[quote="colonel"]Try to be more specific as to what you did. Which theme did you choose? Aside from OEMs, did you remove or change anything? Have you build another rom and still had the same problems?[quote]

I tried all of the built-in themes (crossbow, guava bubbles, etc), and one that I copied to the My Documents folder myself. I tried building ROMs with the OEMs I like selected and when that didn't work, I tried with no OEMs at all, same result... I can't change themes, install cabs, or connect. I have also tried rebuilding and reflashing several times, and got no errors at all.

Oh, sorry, Crossbow theme.

After flashing the ROM, went into Settings-Today-Items and check some additional items to show on Today screen. Upon clicking OK, the Today screen doesn't refresh, and I have to soft-reset.

Please be more specific...
Which items did you select?
Is this repeatable (i.e. does it happen again if you hard reset your phone)?

Not a bug - a question. Is

OEM_VERIZON_MMS.3.0.6.24_FileSupport_Dshow_Common_ Mhub

really a required OEM, or should it be Optional?

(I use Sprint, and don't care about MMS anyway)

It's huge - 7M+ (as big as all the other required components together), so hope it's optional.

TIA

All of the issues in the first post have been addressed except the dogbark.wav. I am not sure where the second instance of this is. I will look into it.

willysp, at this point, leave it in. That OEM includes much more than just MMS. I know for a fact that just removing it will not let the phone even boot. If space becomes and issue perhaps we can look into breaking it apart, but there are a lot of dependencies and it is safer to let it install. You can, however, remove all of the graphic and sound files associated with MMS. This would save you some space.

Colonel - thanks very much for the explanation. If I, a Sprint non MMS-user, need to leave a Verizon MMS OEM in, then I'd respectfully suggest it should be at least re-named.

I plan on building / using a number of large OEMs - several Spb, Pocket Informant, FlexMail, 3 Chinese dictionaries and several PhatWare and Ilium products. I'm guessing I'll stretch the memory envelope here! I'll check in if/when that happens.

Thanks again.

Ah good to know the MMS is required. Sucky, but good to know.

Looks like my next ROM will be off of R1 - R0 worked fine today (full day at R0) - had noticed the comm mrg weirdness, hadn't noticed the favories and other PIE weirdness.

Me likey the new ROM very much.

It would be very good to document
1) how to strip stuff out of a rom build via OEMs (so you don't have to muck with re-applying stuff to future Kitchens)
and of course
2) how to make sure an OEM loads last.

Thanks again and again and again

The MMS package carries the verizon name because that is where it came from (the verizon ExtRom). However, it is setup to work on both Sprint and Verizon.

Anything that is optional in the BuildOS can be removed (as far as I know). To make OEMs load last, name the OEM something like "Optional_zzColonelCustomize". And, make sure the dsm\rgu UUID starts with ff.....

Also, now I am having a little fun. Maybe this will either reduce some confusion or cause more.

I keep getting a "contactcmd.exe already exists" error when I try to use BuildOS

It seems like it's HTC Smartdial 2.2 that is screwing things up; not sure why..

The only part of the kitchen that mentions "dogbark" is...
OEM\OEM_VERIZON_MMS.3.0.6.24_FileSupport_Dshow_Com mon_Mhub

Customize.lst seems to copy to "my sounds".

"initflashfiles.txt" moves it to "my music".

Plus there is the copy left in \Windows, making 3 copies of the mostly pointless dog bark.
