Are you using a bluetooth receiver with your 6700? I'm assuming that you aren't and that you are trying to get a location fix via wifi and the internet. If this is the case and you're showing that you are off about 150 miles then your area has not been mapped by anyone in your area. The area must be mapped with a gps device and downloaded to Navizon so that it may be put into their database server. Once this happens you would be able to use your 6700 without a gps receiver. I have used Navizon many times with and without a gps receiver and it works great. The problem is that most of the areas that will work without a gps receiver are big cities. I hope all of this helps!!

Well, I'm not sold on this Navizon thing. I don't have a BT GPS device so I'm trying to use their "virtual" GPS, and I'm not hooking up to the 'net since I don't have a data plan, so I'm using the "local data" function with the files loaded on my MSD card. Not having much luck with it.
I've reviewed their setup instructions and tried all of their suggestions. All I get when I go to the map is an arrow in the center of the screen, the zoom in and zoom out icons and the word "loading" scrolling around the screen. Never gets past that point..... |

Ikon I experienced much the same thing when i dl'd this app. it show my position about 10miles away so peacock's explanation now makes more sense to me. Too bad i dont have the patience to keep checking for someone to map my area with a GPS unit, this app has promise.

I have been using Navizon for quite a while now. When I first got it I attempted to use it without a GPS. I had much the same issues you are describing. I finally broke down and bought a BT GPS and mapped out most of my city. I notice it is now much more accurate when not using the GPS. I think it will just take time to get more locales mapped out accurately enough to use wi-fi and cell tower positioning.

Yeah, now with Navizon, I don't go anywhere without my BT GPS receiver. I've almost made $40 by mapping out my area and travels (~4000 APs and 600 cell towers). This helps off set some of the initial cost of the BT GPS. Maybe over time it might even help xv6800 fund.

I'm looking for some suggestions on a GPS for my XV6700. I'm currently considering either the Zycast SG-288 or the QStarz QT-818.
Any suggestions or other recommendations? I'm also not sure which mapping software to use. In the past, I've used a CoPilot GPS with my laptop with both the CoPilot software and Microsoft Streets & Trips. Any with voice recognition would be awesome, but at bare minimum -- I know (at least I think I know) that I can fire up Microsoft Live Search and see where in the world I'm at. Thanks in advance, Hannibal |

There are plenty of threads here that discuss GPS receivers. This thread is not about GPS receivers so kindly do a search and ask your question in an appropriate thread.
