I had a tech tell me over the phone that you could use a 4gb card as long as you didn't boot the phone up with it inserted. He said it would screw it up if you left it in, but if you waited it would be just fine.

Received my 4GB card today from flashmemorystore.com. Plugged it into a reader on my PC and sure enough, 4GB, yay!!! Installed in my PPC and it only showed as 2GB. Soft reset, and viola...4GB. Now to copy the stuff from my 2GB card over to the 4GB card and really take it for a test drive. I'm going to try this without partitioning the card and see what happens. Will post experience in a couple of days.

As far as the vendor, straight up, one of the best online vendors I've dealt with. Package was waiting in front of my door when I got home from work today.

The problem doesn't seem to have occured during the boot up process. The problems occurred when the phone woke up. Does the tech have anything on that?

I assume people are using SD and not SD-HC cards. I have a 4GB SD-HC that freezes the ppc as soon as I put it in. The ppc unlocks as soon as I take it out.

I found a ROM image for another HTC ppc (Trinity I think) and pulled out the 3 driver files. Apparently a driver update is needed to access SD-HC cards - does anyone know the manufacturer and model of the SD card hardware in the appache?

I purchased a 4Gb TopRam miniSD from Ebay nearly a month ago. Inserted in phone straight out of the box (already formatted) and was good to go. Have filled nearly 2.1 Gb of its capacity thus far.

Only issue(s) I've had are basically just 2:

1) If I install anything loaded on the "Today" screen such as "WeatherPanel", ect... or any other auto-polled App on the miniSD = Random DSODs

2) Tried the PIE "Cache to miniSD" hack and that produced = Random PIE crashes so reverted that back to phone memory.

PS: Currently running Verizon Rom V2.07.20 WWE and the "Unbranded Phone - Hard Reset" hack and only adding a few of the Verizon customizations back. Been tempted to flash up to one of these 3.5s but now that I've cured my DSODs for the time being, a little hesitant.

Oops Had to retype this post about 4 times until I finally read the disclosure about not posting links until your 3rd post or something... Anyhow it was Ebay Item #140116233643 from seller kofkl

I hope that you are not using the HC cards in the XV6700! They will not work on our devices. The HC = High Capacity cards do require a totally different Firmware that we do not have available to use these type of cards.

I believe the 6800s will make use of the new HC cards. No matter what you do the HC cards will always cause you a headache and just never work right. Now there are 4GB cards available that are non-HC, and that is what I am using with no problems.

I have a 4gb miniSD (Q Memory) card. I will list the things I have tried and had problems with... Hope it helps somebody. I have a SD card reader built into my laptop...

1. Formatted the card in the PPC itself, it won't read on the PC. The PC just kept saying it is not formatted.

2. Formatted the card in the PC using the regular right-click-drive-format functionality. It worked in the PPC for an hour or so. And when the PPC woke up it said the card is not formatted. Lost a lot of programs.

3. Used WM5Storage, connected the PPC to USB. It won't initially show up in the list of drives (My Computer). So, you have to go into disk management and the do partitions and formats. Right click on My Computer and click on Manage. Then on the left section of the manage window, click on disk management. After it reads, you should see a disk on the right bottom panel, which would say non partitioned. Also, the SD card should show up as a USB mass storage device. (WM5Stor.. something).
---Rest of the methods I tried only through this...
(a) Do a quick format FAT32 with default allocation. Same as 2, worked for sometime and then when device woke up, it said not formatted.

(b) Do a full format FAT32/def. alloc. same results as (a)

(c) Partition the disk into two "Primary Partitions", one with 1.85 GB and the next with 2 GB. To do this, right click on the disk (we are still the management console, remember!), and click New Partition, and select primary and mentioned size as roughly 1.85 gb and then format with FAT32/def. alloc. (quick or not doesnt matter), and did the same with second partition. Worked for a couple of hours, and after that the SD card got erased. The programs didn't show up after the device woke up. This time it didn't say SD not formatted. Instead programs stopped working. Went to the card and it had many of the files missing. After that programs refused to install. (Mind You, once you partition, the SD card is not readable by the built in SD reader on the PC. Now, I don't have a USB SD reader, and so I can't test it that way.)

(d) Did same as (c), except did FAT16/def. alloc. and still same errors as (c).

(e) THIS HAS BEEN WORKING FOR A DAY NOW. Did the whole partition routine, BUT did FAT16 with 32K clusters allocation, AND the size of the partitions is 1.95 GB each (I didn't want to get too close to 2 GB size as that craps out). Now, the device read the card properly and is able to use it properly. So far, I haven't lost files in it, nor did it ask me to reformat.

So, try (e) and see if that helps. NOW, the only way to read the card is through WM5Storage, so if you have programs that are installed in the card that run in the background, WM5Storage will refuse to lock it, so do a soft reset before you use the storage card or use a safe mode restart utility.

-AR

PS: I will keep posted on how the card is behaving with this method.
This is still a problem. The last route worked for a couple of days and then suddenly when the device woke up, it asked me to format the SD card. Formatted again, now with full format on the device itself, and loaded all software. Now randomly, the folders disappear.

Anybody using an ultra II scandisk 2gb card? Does it work with the xv 6700?

WE WOULDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IF WE COULD USE THE USB-HOST !!

enough with the 2-4 GB mini sd cards!

Does the 6700 hardware support USB-OTG?
I just got back from living in Japan for two years and was used to having USB Host capibility on my w-zero 3 es (I was able to connect basically whatever usb th you could think of, Hard drives, flash drives, external usb card readers, keyboards.... etc etc... veeeeery usefull especially the external hardrive option... I was connecting a 250 GB hard drive and playing all my music and stuff through it!

I get back to america and of course my Japanese phone doesnt work here, so I picked me up the best one on the american market (6700)

sad to say but the 6700 is nowhere near as cool as my W-Zero 3, its a shame it doesnt work here.... but whatcha gunna do?

I WANT MY USB HOST CAPABILITIES BACK!!!!!!

I have seen some stuff on

pdaphonehome.....
it leads me to believe that the 6700 has the capability.... just no software to unlock it.

below is what was on their site....

"Two facts make me think it might be capable, but not currently supported:
1) The PXA270 processor has a USB host built in to the processor.
2) The USB connector is a Mini-AB type, which physically can fit both Mini-A and Mini-B cables. Mini-A is generally used for host mode. I have 2 other devices with the same shape connector, both of them support USB host mode. Every other device I've seen has a Mini-B only connector (slightly different shape)

Since the USB host is built into the processor, it's just a matter of connecting the processor pins to the connector contacts. It could be soldered with a few wires if it's not already capable.

Can someone knowledgable shed some light on this? I can't think of any reason they would have used the Mini-AB connector if this thing couldn't do USB host.

I found out on UT Starcom's website (PPC6700 manufacturer) that the chipset is a Qualcomm MSM6500. If you goto Qualcomm's website they say it has USB OTG support.

I also went to the USB OTG website and found out that the miniUSB A/B port that we have on the PPC6700 is ONLY ALLOWED on devices with FULL USB OTG support.

If I rememeber right from the past is that USB OTG requires a app. that you run and tell it to switch to HOST mode. A Friend of mine has a device with "advertised" USB OTG support and this is what they have to do. After we figure this out all you need to do is get a miniUSB A cable to plug in the port on the phone that has the right port for your device.

My friend that has the OTG device said there are few drivers for Windows CE but if you search for them they're out there.

FYI: USB OTG means HOST and CLIENT USB modes.

I hope this helps fuel the push to find USB HOST support on the PPC6700 "

?????????
is there an app out there ? I have been searching for hours and days to no avail

the app i used with my w-zero 3 was called usbselect

and the cable i used was a special cable that should work with 6700

the program for some reason doesnt seem to work on the 6700....

any suggestions?/ someone that has sucessfully USB HOSTED with 6700

I was trying to post about USB HOST but since I just signed up I cant post !!!! search google japan for usbselect for the program to enable usb host capibility....

It's where you charge the unit from. Making it extremely convenient, and shares the same interface with many bluetooth gps devices and other devices that a person would have; also, I think most new phones are starting to have a mini-usb for charging (motorola phones etc for exp.)

Interesting - I never thought about that! Was this the link you wanted to post?

http://www.usb.org/developers/usbfaq/

Given this, without USB OTG, HTC may not be able to brand the device with USB mark!
