6700 lag issue

First off, I consider myself a Windows Mobile power user and am writing this only after at least a year off frustration.

I currently have two Pocket PC phones. I use a PPC-6700 for work and a Treo 700wx(which I can't even explain how much faster it runs) for personal. I have used the original rom, a few custom roms and even one of my own. I have also has 3 different 6700s over the last year. Every one has same limitations.

A hard reset will be done and the devce works great for a day or so. Then it goes to junk. Things such as when writing messages there is major key typing lag. Menus don't open up right away. when turning on the screen does not appear right away..it sometimes flashes white first. This all happens even if no programs are installed. I have used all tweaks such as cache sizes, etc. I have also used sktools extensively to clean up system. No matter what it gets slower as time goes on. More recently my employer has begun to use the new security features on my phone when connected to their exchange server. Such as having to enter a password when device is turned on. However, I have not noticed any difference with or without it.

Like I said I have used more than one 6700 as they have been swapped out for various reasons. Each one I have experienced same issue. I also have used the same phone on the verizon network and a local network called cellcom. The phone is very noticably faster on the cellcom model. Is this possibly an issue with the software on the rom that sprint uses(yes, I have also played with removing unneeded cabs in rom)? Anyone else frustrated with the sluggishness of this phone? I know it can run great, because after a hard reset it does. what causes it to go to all crap?

I may do some benchmarking from each provider..

Also, forgive me for any typos..typing this on the 6700...

Just curious, what carrier do you have. I ask because I had a treo 700p and it seemed responsive the first half year, then it started to get real slow and crash more. I replaced it 7 times and finally got a 6700 which works WAY better than the 700p. I think a lot of the issues were changes that verizon was making.

the key lag happens with every single 6700 i test. thats just the way it is i guess. And as for the wx being a better phone, well, it came out a year after the 6700, so i would hope it would be better. These little quirks you talk about, i guess most of us have learned to deal with them the best we can, just because our phone (the 6700) has it all. Wifi. Evdo. Free Tethering. Bigger keyboard. its what makes the underground scene more active, we want this phone as perfect as we can make it.

I agree we can learn to live with these issues. I have lived with them since I got the phone right after its release. However, the question is why do the quirks happen. Lets find out why this phone works great right after a hard reset and the quirks are not there. Even the typing lag is not there. What happens to this device after usage?

On the topic of the typing lag and sometimes key presses that do not register..I have determined the reason for this. The screen you are typing in looses focus for a split second when the phone does thinks like reconnect to data services. Or if you switch from 1x to EVDO.
