Activesync 4.5 Contacts problem

And, the woes of my wife's phone continues...

Using Activesync allows everything to sync, except Contacts. What gives?

Version info:

Activesync 4.5
Windows XP
Kirvin Clean and Simple ROM

I have deleted both Partnerships (PC on the device, Device on the PC), and reset everything. Calendar syncs just fine. Contacts adamantly refuses to sync. Each time, Activesync checks it off as synched, but nothing ever transfers. The contacts are present on Outlook, but they never show up on the phone.

Oddly enough, the phone EACH TIME greys out the Contacts option on the Activesync options page. You cannot check it to add contacts to the sync list. You can, of course, delete the relationship...but the next time it will do it, too.

What the heck gives? My other phone synced contacts just fine (exact same setup).

Also, I have tried synching ONLY Contacts, trying to "force" AS to do the transfer. It does the same thing...on the computer side, it says it synched the contacts (but you can tell it hasn't, since it just puts a checkmark in the column, it never runs through the 100+ contacts), and they don;t show up on the phone. And still, if you disconnect the phone and open ActiveSync on the phone, it has the Contacts option greyed, and won't let you check it, but the other stuff (notes, calendar, files) are unchecked but can be checked.

Synching is accomplished via USB, not bluetooth. Activesync seems to have no problem establishing the link between the two devices.

FInally, the phone has no relationships with other computers, and the computer has no relationships with other phones, so that should not be a conflict.

Thanks,
Mike

if you connect your device to the pc. after it is done syncing, select tools, options, from active sync on the PC. is contacts grayed out there also?

if so... delete the partnerships on the pc and the device one more time. rename the pim file on your device, soft reset, and then sync once more. after the initial sync go to tools, options. If contacts is not check then do so now. If contacts is checked then un-check it and select OK. after it syncs again. then go into tools, options. and place the check back on contacts.

if that works, great. if not, then just rename your old pim file back to pim and soft reset and you are back were you started at least.

good luck.

Well, before I got a chance to try that fix, my wife called to tell me that she hooked it up to her computer, and it now syncs fine. She did nothing that hadn't been done a hundred times before...it just "took" this time.

She's all smug now, claiming that it just required a woman's touch.

For all I know, she's right.

Thanks,

Mike
