My understanding (I am ready to be corrected) is that you can't tell in File Explorer. Think of program memory like RAM on your PC. The more apps you have actively running the more program memory is used. You can tell under the memory app in Settings, or in 3rd party monitors.

It uses less storage memory because there is a 63M chunk alloted to the ROM. So even if you only have 50M in the ROM, all 63M is allocated. If it's not in the ROM it would have to be installed on the left over 3*M.

Must be nice to have a PPC with 256M+ and not have to worry.

In Total Commander chose 'show' then select 'hide files in rom' - this, of course, will show you the files that are NOT in ROM (Read Only Memory).

But storage memory must be like RAM in a PC too. As I open programs and and run them and do not close them or clear their caches, storage memory also goes down

TamboourineMan, think of it this way....

Program Memory is the RAM of a PC. Remember, this is on a seperate chip in the PPC.

The 63MB ROM partition would be a locked partition on the PC

Storage Memory is the usable partition for the end user (drive :c on the PC). Here the user can install apps and store documents, files, etc.

The Extended Rom would be drive :d on some PCs where the manufacturer apps and backups are stored. It is just another usable partition that was designed for a certain purpose but can be unlocked and used by the end user.

I think the reason you managed to get an extra 1.58 mb from your ROM compared to Kirvin's has less to do with your removal of some items and more to do with Kirvin adding a few things to his ROM which took storage space (Sprint Customizations, MMS, Midlet Manager). These all included files that had to be installed outside of the Windows directory so even though they were in the ROM, when flashed they take up storage space. I doubt there would be much difference between a ROM created from the Unified Kitchen with no OEMs added and yours. In other words, leaving the games and calculator and other items in there wouldn't make much difference in final storage space. Helmi's original 3.3 had 38.51 free storage space after a flash and I think some of the first 3.5's that were being tested had about 40.
I agree and if you will read all of the post you quoted found HERE and this post HERE you will find that is exactly what I said. If you could kindly link me to the AKU's you tested that have 40 mb free I would appreciate it I would like to compare so I can make my update better.

NoJunk ROM? Can someone explain to me what the point of NoJunk ROM?... wasting ur precious rom space for nothing? isn't silly? if u dont use it, u can still burn it to rom, but you just dont activated it, use cab for activated junk app... simply isnt?

Add Activator CAB Example (MS VoiceCommander) activator size is beetwen 1-98kb in size, better then Install the whole APP (3.94mb) right?

I don't have the links to the ROM's I used, but I'm pretty sure the AKU 3.3 was Helmi's first release and the AKU 3.5 was a custom ROM I did using the first AKU 3.5 kitchen. The first thing I do after flashing is write down the available Program and Storage Memory on post-it notes so I have a reference on what I've done. I wouldn't recommend using any of those kitchens anyway as they're old and the Unified Kitchen is so much more stable (for me anyway). I'm not sure the trade-off in stability would be worth the slight storage increase. Like Helmi said, his most recent release has over 40 MB storage available and even more if you remove the OEM's that create files outside the Windows folder. My main point is that your comparison shouldn't be to Kirvin's Clean and Simple as it has a few additions that take up additional storage space. Any storage comparison should be against a ROM made with Unified Kitchen with no OEM's added which could be taking up storage space.

If the App make instability issue? dont activate it (or deactivate it), or better don't added to rom at first place...

still... I dont see the point of NoJunk is all about... why add nothing to it if we hv the space? if we dont use it? just dont activate it (it has zero effect), but the junks might usefull for others... so user hv ability to choose what app needed or not with activated method... The rom itself will be advance rom capability, but user might also make it "Standart" rom..

well Activated method is a bit complicated to the developers then add nothing to it offcourse...
