Recieved my 6700, should i update to sprint aku2 first?

recieved my 6700 today, got it activated and havent really played with it enough to get used to.. the first thing i looked for was rom version/build
Before getting into custom roms and stuff, i'd like to have the most up to date build for oem sprint to get familiar with first.

do i need to follow the wiki on updating to aku2? or is there a more updated tutorial somewhere? Or should i just get a sprint tech to do this?

heres what i have..

OS 5.1.1700 build 14352.0.1.0

rom version 1.03.00 wwe
08/17/05
hardware v0041
prl 20221

The main reason for updating to the newest available sprint provided rom is for the radio version. If your radio version is older than the one in the newest sprint rom than you should update. From the info you posted i think your radio is probably an old version.
Another reason is to double check yourself on the whole flashing process if you haven't done it before.
Basically you might as well give it a shot.

sprints latest radio version is 1.27.

you will not want to follow it too exactly. you will first want to go to http://sprint.com/downloads and select windows mobile (CE) from the dropdown then select submit. select 6700 upgrade application's download link to the right. save to you desktop and execute after you have synchronized at least once with your pc. after you are done you can delete this file. All you have to do is follow the onscreen instructions and you will have the latest Sprint ROM in about an hour. (including download and flash time combined)

Happy Flashing!

this process can also be done by extracting the radio file from the sprint update and placing it into the flash directory of the rom of your choice. (may not be for beginners)

SWEET.

its updated, few noticable changes i see..
okay, i got activesync setup(4.2) before the update, updated, and now im at 2.0.0, rom2.06.00, radio1.27.00, msi4.01

OKAY

from now i go ahead and make a full backup of this image?
i use spb backup.

then i can try one of the custom roms? or is there anymore preliminary things i need to do?
