This was a side-effect of the ROM update/changes made, it's really awful and was one of the reasons some of us ditched the 6700.

Changing the codec does help a little but it no where matches the volume of the device before the 2.06 upgrade and no one has figured a way to fix it (there are tons of posts on this at pdaphonehome.com).

Interesting...I just tried this on a Sprint phone and I think the volume is a little louder...
Out of curiosity how did you do this on a Sprint phone???? I'm guessing its the 6700 you did it on.

I followed the instructions (you need your MLS number to do this):

1. Dial ##778#
2. Select Edit
3. Enter MLS Code (Unlock)
4. From the Top, select CDMA Settings
5. Changed EVRC Enabled to Disabled
6. Changed Home Page to Voice 13k
7. Changed Home Orig to Voice 13k
8. Changed Roam Orig to Voice 13k

Thanks for the info! I just got the unlock code and will be trying it. Hopefully they will fix this issue.
