Colonel's Custom 3.5 Final Roms and Kitchen Patches
Well, with the release of the 3.5 kitchen and the fact that my rom is pretty much full, I figure that it is about time to wrap this up. I may decide to go in a different direction with another rom, but I think this one is pretty much done.
Here is a list of what is included in the roms themselves: WM6 themes and icons Cyberon Voice Dialer MS Voice Command (with .exe removed) WM6 Remote Desktop PIEPlus 2.2 (with .dll removed) Tetris and Yhatzee (borrowed from JBabey) Custom Wait Icon (can be changed from this thread) acbPowerMeter acbToggleBT Add Ringtone app Clear Temp Contacts Manager CycleBT Device Lock DictEditor Extended Rom is unhidden and can be unlocked with the included app File as First Last (for saving contacts) Flash Player 7 Flashlight LVMTopBat (battery indicator) Mark All as Read Midlet Manager MyExtensions (associate files with apps) Notepad NotifyMe NullKeyboard O2plus PIM Backup Pocket IRC Pocket RAR Pocket PDF SIP Change Smartskey SoftKeyApplet Task Manager/Registry Editor Tcpmp Custom Themes Total Commander Windows Live Windows Live Search WM5torage .Net CF 2 Removed: Stock MSN stuff Clear Storage Intellipad The Sprint versions also include the Sprint ExtRom built in. The other versions should allow for the carrier cabs to be installed from the ExtRom if necessary. As before, you can put the folder on the root of your SD card named Boot. In this folder you can place your VoiceCmd.exe, PIEPlus.dll, and a you can edit the Custom settings cab and edit the config.txt. Also included in the Boot folder is a copy of the PIM Backup app that you can put on your device and run before flashing to backup your stuff. As far as the patch goes, when you download the 3.5 kitchen it should have a file called CBOW. Delete everything in this folder and replace with the contents of the patch RAR. Then click on the patch.bat and it should copy everything you need into the kitchen. Thes patches will bring the kitchen up to my roms. So, if you patch the kitchen and make a rom without making any changes, it should look like my rom. The patches also contain a copy of the Boot folder that can be placed on the SD for customization. However, if you are cooking your own rom, this may not be necessary since you can put the necessary files into the proper OEMs and you can edit the config.txt in the Customize OEM to install cabs. Standard rules apply when flashing a rom. Make sure you backup all of you data. Then place the phone in Bootloader mode by pressing the Notes (Cassette on left, top) button, the Power button, and reset. The screen should darken and say Serial. Connect to your PC and it should say USB. Then run the installer. Once completed, make sure you do a hard reset. This is done by pressing both soft keys and the reset button. The screen should turn white and prompt you to press "Y". Also, these insturctions are part of the installer. Colonel,
Thanks for all the good stuff you've done for us with these roms. I started my rom adventures with your first 3.3 release. I'm currently updating to your 3.5 final of the non-sprint rom. This has come a long way from those first releases. You deserve a big thanks! |
Colonel,
Is the spinning wait symbol (currently the yin/yang) changeable? I'd like to go back to the default if possible as it matches my theme better. Thanks again, Chris |
yes it is. Updating first post with info.
|
Thanks Colonel - you are the only one to whom I donalted my PPC Cash :) - not sure what that means etc though
|
colonel,
I am more of noob than i thought  can you give me a short 1-2-3 on how to start (after dl and unzipping) what to do and wjhat to do with the patch? I loved 3.3 and i want to get this going!! thanks |
The patch is for people using the kitchen to make their own roms. All it does is update the 3.5 kitchen with all of my stuff. Instructions for use of the patch is in the first post. What are you confused about?

Col.,
Thanks for replying.when i unzip OtherCarriers3.5Final there are a number of files. 1)which do I use to start the instllation? 2)the nk.nbf.txt file is all garbled but says something about extracting the nk.nbf file. Do I have to do that too? This is for starters - sorry, i may hve more questions after . Thanks |
just put your phone in bootloader mode and double click on the Apacupgrade utility (Looks like the Apache)
|
ok that worked. thanks. looks great
now the patch. in the other carrier kitchen patch there is no CBOW file or folder. should there be or tjis only for Sprint? |
When you download the kitchen, there is a CBOW folder that comes with the kitchen. You just replace everything in the CBOW folder with the stuff from the patch.
|
ok. i'll try it again. Thanks a lot
|
acbToggleBT
where is the icon for acbToggleBT in your rom colonel i am looking all over for it.
Nevermind i found it on main screen under tools looks like headphones with bt icon inside. DOH! |
Alright, I'm gonna try to make my own little bastardization of your ROM using the Kitchen.
A few questions. I don't see anything called CBOW in the kitchen. Am I missing something? Can I just add and remove folders from the OEM folder to modify (before I compile it of course)? [don't want the battery meter stuff, most of the games, TCPMP and a few other things. I'd love to know how to add in WisbarLite and PhoneAlarm.] In your SprintKitchenPatch, there is something called Palringo. What is it and can I remove it? Other than the \Storage Card\Boot\ folder, where can I put my voicecommand exe? That Boot folder thing hasn't worked for me on any of your ROMS; not a big deal, but if I can make it work right... |
I've flashed with the SprintFinal3.5 rom, but having a couple of problems.
1) Once I try to start the phone dialer program, I can no longer receive calls. Can receive and return calls if I've not previously tried to make a call. 2) Contacts won't come up. 3) Calendar program throws an error after about 20 seconds. "An unexpedcted error has occured in this program". 4) Today page. Links to Contacts and Flashlight don't do anything. Hope someone can help. My config.txt looks like: LOCK:Disabled CPY1:\Extended_ROM\config.txt CPY2:\Windows\Config.txt LOCK:Disabled RST: Reset and the \StorageCard\Boot has these files in it: pim.vol, voicecmd.exe, Config.txt, Custom Settings.cab and PPCPimBackup.exe -------------- Chalk all of that up to a pim.vol from a 2.x rom. Not compatible with a 3.x rom. Thanks colonel (via chat room) |
Trident, I guess I was still thinking of the other kitchens I have used. I will edit the first post. Basically, just extract the patch into a folder inside the kitchen folder. Then run the patch. You can do it manually as well.
You can remove Palringo. I actually thought I removed it already. I will check. You can put your VoiceCmd.exe in the Voice Command OEM. |
Colonel, I am back in the fold after a brief sojourn to another ROM. This one is great.
I do, however, have one question, the Cyberon voice dialer complains that it is not installed properly. Do I go around and manually install the parts in the proper places, or do I have to flash again? Thank you for all of your work, it is truly an excellent ROM. |
What is the error that you are getting? I do not use Voice dialer and I do not even have it in my rom that I have on my phone.
|
This is what I get when I push the button to start voice command.
Thanks The file "voice Cmd" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file. |
Never mind, I figured it out! You have the button set to Voice Command not the Cyberon Voice Dialer! I think I can figure this one out.
Thanks |
I'm having issues with the phone recognizing non-OEM chargers again.
It does seem to fix itself after a while, but we're talking at least 10 minutes. And I have to reset without being connected to the charger. I also noticed that after the screen blanks and then I turn it back on, when I first turn it on there is a very brief time where the phone is not recognizing the battery state correctly- I get a brief notification that the battery is critically low. Battery level is almost always 80% or above. And by "brief" I mean no more than two seconds- usually one or less. |
Is anyone having problems with opening up more than one program at a time? when i open the 2nd, the first closes.
|
Have you added anything? I saw this not too long ago when I was messing with an app, but it is not something I put in the rom. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what it was off of the top of my head.
|
wisbar advance 2 among others. I hard reset - we'll see what happens with and w/o it
|
Colonel

Hmmm, it is there for me. Go here:
Hklm\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Owner Info" "Enabled" should be set to 1 if you want it to show ggaeta, go to Settings\Buttons and reasign the button |
After a hard reset, we aren't supposed to let the customizations run, correct? All the Sprint customizations are in the ROM and the extROM stops all of the "creamy goodness" from doing it's thing, right?
One minor issue- I tried to use WindowsLiveSearch while out with a client today and got nothing working. I went to the download site and downloaded and installed the version there and everything worked like a charm. Also, possibly related, when I start up PIE it never goes to the start page. When I go to favorites, I can go to any site (including the home page) without issue. After using PIE, I can shut it down and then when I open it again, the homepage opens up properly. |
In the Sprint version, let everything run. It will not call any cabs from the ExtRom. You really aren't missing much by not letting it run other than some customization stuff like SIP Change and PIM Backup and stuff from the Boot folder. However, the other version should call any cabs necessary for other carriers.
I just opened up Live Search and it worked fine for me. Not sure what the deal was when you tried to use it. Were there any specific errors? What was not working? I have not noticed anything with PIE. However, I have a custom setup to install PIEPlus on install so it is always there. I have ppcgeeks set as the homepage and it always comes up. Stop breaking the rom  |
