can't get gmail to display messages

OK.....

Previously used wireless sync for gmail, now I've dumped wireless sync and set it up in outlook.

went through the steps for POP3 setup
I let it auto find the settings
email address entered with @gmail.com
user info entered without "gmail.com" though I tried both ways
account POP3
Name Gmail
incoming pop.gmail.com:995
outgoing smtp.gmail.com:465
Domain (left blank)
Incoming requires SSL (currently checked, but I've tried both ways)
outgoing requires authentication (currently checked, but I've tried both ways)
use separate settings (currently checked, but I've tried both ways)

In gmail I've enabled and reenabled POP3 in the 'forwarding and pop3' section
I saves those settings

I try to send and receive.....

says checking 252 headers......none are downloaded to the device

I've downloaded 1 message throughout the last 6 days after my hard reset/ROM flash/change from wireless sync.

That day, the settings were as described above...

ANY thoughts???????

BTW, I sync with my office email with no problem, separate outlook settings for that.

you said that you get gmail at your office through outlook right? check to make sure that your office compouter is not "poping" the emails off of the G-mail server before your phone is. you can correct this by checking the box leave gmails copy on the server in you gmail accout settings. This way your phone and computer can both pop them. your settings all seem to be correct and G-mail is an account that i use every day from my phone. Try sending email and let me know what happens.

As an alternative, I have a mail2web push account (Free) and have gmail forward emails to it. So, I get my gmail sent as push mai. Worth a try if you need it.

While we're on the Gmail subject, not a big deal, but everytime I send/receive the Gmail account, it wipes out the "already read" messages.

Is there a way to prevent this so I can look at older emails if I need to - they don't take up much memory anyways.

Thanks in advance

try putting "recent:" in front of your username and telling outlook to leave messages on the server. This way your phone will pull the most recent messages from the server regardless of what another program may have done.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies...

bsjoiner.....Office mail is a separate email account, not gmail. I DID try ans send an email from my PPC with success....hmmmmm

colonel.....saw a little about mail2web when researching answer to this question. Sounds like a nice program. I was trying to avoid having another program installed to check email if at all possible though...I dunno, maybe, I'll have to go to 3rd party software to get my gmail.

jimnutt, I am set to leave messages on server. I will try putting recent in front of my user name......

OK I finally found a fix. Posting just in case others have this problem

THe following thread at pdaphonehome.com has the solution to most peoples gmail issueshttp://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6700-xv6700/59573-disappearing-vanishing-emails-w-gmail-p-outlook.html?highlight=disappearing+gmail

Interestingly after all this I was still having a problem so I kept looking and ran across this thread at howardforums.com.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...0&page=2&pp=15

by changing my username to recent:username@gmail.com I was finally able to DL messages AND they stayed on my device after sending/receiving
