MMS Fix for Cricket Wireless Users upgrading to AKU 3.5

For Cricket users planning to upgrade your AKU to version 3.5, be advised: These ROM's are mostly cooked-up for Verizon and Sprint users, and all the one's I used have ArcSoft settings that are either for those two companies or dummy/OEM settings.

Having said that, I recently upgraded my ROMset to Kirvin's "plain and simple" AKU 3.5. Needless to say, I was depressed thinking I couldn't upgrade to the newer AKU's without sacrificing our recently discovered MMS loophole.

Mind you, this ROMset uses ArcSoft MMS Composer Version 3.0.16.6 pre-installed and configured for Sprint. (This is why there are MMS registry settings CAB's out there for Verizon and Sprint users.)

But, with the help of the healthman of Howard Forums, I was able to get MMS working (again ).

The problem is in the registry. The key in question can be found under:

Code:
HKLM\Software\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader
There should only be FIVE STRING values under this key. They should each have the following settings:

Code:
Accept = application/vnd.wap.multipart.related
Accept-Language = en
User Agent = Arcsoft/MMSUA/v3.0
X-Cricket-MDN = your_ten_digit_phone_number
If you find the following keys, DELETE them!:

Code:
Accept-Charset
Profile
Ignore the values there--those are the OEM settings from the parent company HTC (High Tech Computing) over in Asia! This is what causes the MMS messages to fail upon send.

I changed those registry settings to those I listed above and BAM! MMS is now working flawlessly for me (again) under AKU 3.5!

Extra thanks to the healthman for all his help!

Now if one of you geniuses here could write a registry CAB for these settings, that would be most excellent. Way beyond me, this kinda stuff! You people here amaze me!

Good hunting!

*ADDENDUM*

You can send audio and video using the above method as well.

I noticed that when I tried to send a video by MMS it was way slow, so I hunted through the registry and found the following key:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1
Then modify the String value "SendAndRecvTimeOut" which by default = 5000 (decimal), so I changed mine to 10000 (double the original limit).

That seemed to do the trick for me!

Mind you, I also increased my file size limit:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcso ft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI\SizeLimit
I went to SendLimit3 and changed it to 524288 (decimal) which is 512 x 1024 in actual kilobytes.

Again, I'm using the ArcSoft MMS Composer that came bundled with Kirvin's "clean and simple" AKU 3.5.

Hoo and rah. <--In that order.

I did not even know this was possible. Does Cricket allow unlocked phones or something or do they think it's another phone?

Is it possible to do this to get a phone activated on Sprint? Say, with a Verizon 6700? Or even an enV?

I know this is a little old... but I have some insight. Most CDMA Phones can be flashed to almost any CDMA carrier. Cricket knows that I have a UTSTARCOM PPC6700 from Alltel flashed to Cricket. Before I had a Alltel MotoRAZR, Before that I had a Verizon Sanyo phone. My girl has a Verizon MotoRAZR on Cricket. some CDMA phones dont work like the Verizon Chocolate LG Phone, its at a higher band I belive. When you have a phone flashed from a cell phone store, the only things that work on the phone are Text and the Phone service it self. You cannot recieve picture messages or use the web without doing some kind of hacking. I've hacked my Alltel RAZR to work as if it were a Cricket RAZR. The things previewed here are making the phone work with more cricket services that aren't provided by a normal flash. All you need is to know your way around the phone and the proper settings to input in the proper area's. As seen here. But say, even without doing such mods like this... you can still recieve picture or video messaging to a certain extent. When you get a picture message or anything of the MMS form, it will come as a text with a web link and code to view the message online.

The only bad part about it, is flashing the phone on your own might be a little hard because... well the last time I checked it was illigal (or concidered piracy) to give out the info on the web for doing such a move. So paying a company is the other choice, but for our kind of phones, it can get pricey... 60 bucks for me to have my Alltel PPC 6700 flashed to the Cricket network.

Hope this info helps.

Excellent info! Thanks for the reply.

One thing though- are you sure it's illegal? I thought it was officially legal now?

It is not illegal to flash your phone, laws have been passed that say since you bought it its yours to do what you want with it. As for paying $60 for getting your 6700 flashed damn that sucks because you could have done it yourself for free.

Not illigal... more like... well crap how do I explain. Its just from what I've read from other forums like WirelessAdvisor, saying that its a piracy thing... Not like I care, just haven't been able to find the info...

Share the wealth! I'd love to flash my phone whenever things get screwy.
