Thanks Maxx. Im using the WK-task and it works well. Can you list everything you've kitchened into this thing so I know what I need to add or not via cab(s)? Im wondering if you added/used the landscape by mbavarian? I know he's got another version thats imminent to cut the lag significantly....

also, any chance you can do a straight black version (like the original) but with a digital clock as OEM?

thanks for this its great work.

If I understand correctly, Manila is basically a UI. If so, I'm interested how some of you would compare Manila w/ SBP mobile shell -

spb mobile shell is a bit more polished and takes up alot less space ..its also not freeware ..i think in time manilla 2d will be better than spb ms ..thats just my opinion..also manilla has a picture album , animated weather etc where as spb is just what it says ..a shell ..

I've tried everything too. The only workaround I have seen is if you use skyfire and just watch the videos on youtube that way. It's a shame too, because like you said the nice looking app and search function are great but don't mean anything if the videos don't play.

First poster here.:headbang: Hi
Iv been lurking in the back ground for the past week in this forum tying to get all the info I need before I stare cooking and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting there turn-outs/trials and errors with this 2d manilla on the good old apache.
I’m using 20755 with Maxx134’s Mega Manilla 19b with no problems. Well just one, and I believe its been talked about. Turning on/off Wi-Fi. When I press the commutations tab nothing happens. The tab flash’s to show it’s been pressed. Not an app killer, I just go to all setting and turn it on/off that way.:drunken:

And I will like to know the same thing Fitbryan asked about the list

The tab control is problem is because it is associated with another device. WIFI button in your comm manger is what it's supposed to copy.

Yes I will but I dont get to have much time to tinker like I would like to so just once more to make smaller OEM.

I have tried also to make VideoFix cab and YouTube to work but no luck yet so they are not included in this or next OEM... Only essential files are in and you can add those and mbavarian's landscape separately.

This OEM only had what will work for all devices:

"From xda site using Ver19 files.Trimmed for most devices. Google, Album, Audio, and Enhancements are included. Has MP3Trimmer features. Suggested app to add is "Opera_v9_5_Build_2392_QVGA_WWE" or newer. Youtube and Video fixes not included because didnt work for Apache."

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

smaller would be nice - I get a couple days max before mine locks up. sometimes it takes multiple resets too lol.

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Hello all. I am reminding you that this OEM is from files over at :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
And the OEM name may cause confusion as it is not the "19b" version from over there, so please refer to this OEM as just ver19 I dont want to create any confusion.
As I stated before I didnt want to post and create a thread because of possible confusion, and anyway a new version is coming soon from them so I may not post another OEM untill then, but if anybody has luck with Youtube for Apache I would love to know & make OEM for that.
Anyone with problems should check their available memory.
Version 19 works slightly faster than older versions for me but my Vista totally rejects my replacement Apache so had to deal with that and then I just read about the new version coming, I just hope it isnt much larger...

EDIT: going thru many posts and will update OEM soon...

hey guys, I've been lurking too :)

If I'm reading all this right, it sounds like even the best (aka skinniest) manila ROM on Apache needs rebooting every 2 days or so?
(and I'm assuming that's a soft reboot?)

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Okay, I feel so absolutely, ridiculously stupid!

Would you guys mind a few n00b questions? (And I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong location...)

I've been reading this thread over and over, trying to follow what you guys are saying - and that's after studying ppcgeeks for the last 2 weeks, searching and reading tutorials, etc, trying to answer any Qs on my own before bothering you with it. Maybe it's just brain overload, but I'm getting a bit confused about what goes where with this Manila2D OEM!

As background, I have flashed successfully over 15 times, just playing around with the kitchen and loading different options - I'm using 20755 - so I'm real comfortable with that. (honestly, it's hard to mess that up, you guys have made it so 'plug -n- play' :) Thanks for that BTW!)

I even tried loading the manila 2D that comes with 20755. Got that looping touchFlo loading thang, too. So I gave up on that, reflashed to something more basic and concentrated on reading up on stuff and learning how things work.

---aside: I have 2 good Apaches, so I can play with one of them and still keep the other as my working phone until I get it right.... and I'm not afraid to get in there and mess around (though I hope I do so responsibly :) After all, I bought 3 "broken" apaches from ebay - tore into them and made 2 decent working phones. And Jabu, you made me LOL about the whole volume slider thing and that "rubber block 61"! Yep, happened to me too...twice... ---

I'd really like to advance to the next level. I'd love to load Maxx's Manila OEM, but when I read over this thread, it sounds as if some of you are extracting the files from various OEMs and dumping them into the kitchen_OEM. Sometimes it sounds as if you're replacing the entire kitchen_OEM with another .rar file.

If you dump the files into the PPCkitchen_OEM, do you create a folder structure for them, or just dump the whole wad inside? If you're replacing the OEM, are you RARing the zipped folder you download, then putting them in the Kitchens folder? (I'se confused....)

Also...various downloads from various sites (ppckitchen, here and xda-dev) have different types of files inside their main folder.

For example:

1. I d/l version 19a from xda-dev, and all the files inside the version 19a folder are cabs...

2. I d/l Maxx's "zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19b" and unzipped it, and all the files inside are *really* unpacked. There are all the dlls, pngs, xmls, muis, etc just sitting there in the main folder. (So should I open Maxx's folder in WinRAR and rar it...?)

3. I opened up the PPCkitchen_OEM.rar using WinRAR and the files inside there are all tucked nicely into various folders.

I know there's a method to all this and if I just had my Ovaltine Decoder Ring, I'd understand the file structure and what should go where, but I'm pretty lost right now, and don't know how to proceed - or even where to go to read up on it so I can learn what to do!

Jabu mentioned on page 3 of this thread that they released instructions/cabs, but I searched for them and they keep eluding me.

Then I downloaded version 19a from the xda-developers site because someone had mentioned there were instructions included in the zip file ... but I didn't see them....

Then I saw on page 3 of this thread that DennyG had used the existing PPCKitchen_OEM, extracted the cabs from xda dev and replaced all the files in the PPCkitchen_OEM with these.

I can do that. I have the kitchen open in WinRAR, have the cabs from XDA. Do I unpack them and stick them into the kitchen_OEM?

(the head is officially spinning right now and I have a distinct urge to pull my hair out, which is pretty drastic since there's 4 feet of it...)

help...

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

laithis - I have a short attention span, but maybe this is the answer to your question :)

Here is how I did it:
1. Unzip Maxx's zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19 - I just extracted all the files to a folder of the same name.
2. Place the unzipped folder into C:\Program Files\PPCkitchen.org\BuildOS\USER_OEM
3. Open BuildOS, and there should now be an OEM category, and it is called SuperMegaManilaPack19

You shouldn't have to mess with the PPCKitchen_OEM or do any repacking of anything at all, just drop the unzipped folder in to USER_OEM.

Just to let you folks know, I too have a megapack... :) I started a new thread for it in the themes section. Click the link in my sig! It's got 30+ different skins and it'll work for ppckitchen too!

Mostly, I am curious if this will work on the apache, and mogul...Can someone pm me if it does/doesn't work? Thanks!

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Thanks RdBrd and rstoyguy!
[BTW - sorry for that long post... Didn't know how else to explain my confusion!]

I think I know what got me off track - it was a comment DennyG said about extracting the cabs from xda dev and replacing all the files in the PPCkitchen_OEM with those files.

So if I understand correctly, you're supposed to customize your own ROM by messing with the USER_OEM folder - and nothing else (unless you reeeally know what you're doing!).

Which means, if I apply that to the 3 examples I used..

1) The version 19 folder I downloaded from XDA which had all cabs in it: I would just put the entire folder as-is inside the USER_OEM folder [or should I un-cab each item first?]

2) Unzip Maxx's "zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19" folder and move the folder into USER_OEM

3) Don't mess with the PPCkitchen_OEM.rar inside the Kitchens folder. Period.

I think what threw me was when DennyG said he'd extracted the cabs from xda dev and replaced all the files "in the PPCkitchen_OEM" with them. He must have been using shorthand to refer to the USER_OEM folder and I just misunderstood.

Did I get it right?

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

BTW, I messed around several hours yesterday with various builds, using Manila2D - and SUCCESS! Man this is sweeeeet!!!

rstoyguy, I'm going to load your megapack on my other Apache tomorrow or Weds evening after work. (REALLY wanting those other themes! :D )

I'll PM you if I just can't get it to work, but I'll try several configurations first, so you'll have some feedback if all doesn't go well.

thanks again guys for straightening me out!

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

No prob, glad you got it figured out.
In reference to your question about everything going in the USER_OEM, I really can't answer with 100% certainty. I had never tried adding anything to the kitchen before, and figured that out by trial and error. I'm assuming yes though.
Your 3 examples:
1) You can't put just any cab into the kitchen. It has to be converted for OEM. I have no idea what's involved in this, but check out the Custom OEM link in rstoyguy's signature.
2) Yes
3) You might be able to add things to the PPCKitchen_OEM.rar. I don't know why it wouldn't work, but I've never tried it.

Use the OEM instead of the CAB install. I had the same problem and someone pointed me to the OEM and it is very quick now.

Also, just wanted to post this. I prefer Skyfire over the Opera browser but could not get it to open up via the shortcut in the internet tab. The FAQ on the XDA forums said to just make a copy of the skyfire.exe file and rename it "OperaL.exe". That still didn't work for me, and kept coming up with a certificate error.

If anyone else is experiencing this problem, i made an OEM that just renamed the executable and shortcut target. Enjoy

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Is there anyway to get the default WM wireless manager (wrlsmgr.exe) to run when hitting the communications button in the settings tab? I believe it is just looking in the /windows directory for the executable CommManager.exe, but It won't let me rename wrlsmgr.exe and the other comm managers just seem to bog performance down.

If it comes down to it I guess running the other one won't be to much of a sacrifice, but just wondering.

Yes I was messing with animated brn files and decide to just leave it alone at this point.
Also spent time playing with higher versions but this old Apache cannot handle it at this time.

NEW OEM USING SAME DSM RGU NAMED FILES, yea I'm lazy with running OEM maker, so remove older one from "USER_OEM" folder.

Restart/refresh Build OS kitchen.
Select new OEM in "Today Plugins"

WHat IS NEW?::

-OEM size reduced (15.1meg Total OEM size with album, Audio, Enhancements & googleMaps all included)
-Weather cities xml reduced size.
-Manila.exe hex edited for all devices( "herg62123's 19B with youTube Int widget" - removed & replaced youtube).
-manila.exe hex edited to show next appoint, not show all day appointment(by bl4ckb1rd).
-edit reg for new internet widgets
-Internet widget add:
1-ppcgeek link & bmp (using Opera)
2-xda link & bmp (using Opera)
3-int explorer link & bmp
4-skyfire link & bmp
-replace sample photo
-Edit HTCHomeSettings.xml for new graphic layout
-New blueDiamond grafics by me using and totally moding sources from everywhere. Edited to take up least memory possible.
-Used "PeterFnet M2D Email Transparent v1.2" email graphics to view more text and then Totally re-modded image to be more like envelope.
-deleted google bmp, not needed in OEM
-deleted AccuweatherLogo.jpg, not needed in OEM
-deleted HH_INTERNET_YOUTUBE not needed in OEM
-Edit animated BRN files, more animation : 1-4rain, 5-11leaf(XM2DRainAnimation.cab- thanks to BeyondInvisible), 11-22wiper New back and forth animation by me.
-Everything is working and seems to be working better on my apache than last OEM.
-OEM can use either cab or OEM versions of Opera and Skyfire.

AS ALWAYS, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, I am not around enough for support, so good luck :)

- Re-edited DanoH5656 OEM (for skyfire):
(Edited shotrcut, exefile, option.xml, and initflashfiles.txt), so his OEM will install to same locations as if it was an original cab, so can use for my OEM.
Thank you DanoH5656

EDIT: Updated Xml file to exclude same OEMs in kitchen, now ready for kitchen.
Use "MaxxManilaBlueDiamondApache1" . Otherwise same as other file so no need to reflash.
EDIT: "ManilaBlueDiamond2D" smallest, nicest and latest.
