how do I make a custom boot?

Hey guys,

I've flashed my xv6700 from verizon to cricket, and I'm curious if there's a way to overwrite the default files, so that when I hard reset my phone, I don't have to manually overwrite all the verizon programming.

What's been changed is a few items in EPST, custom WAP settings and MMS settings, and MMS enabled, but all other verizon customization is bypassed.

Is there a way for me to create a custom ROM, or otherwise modify the master boot record to prevent these settings from being overwritten?

Not sure exactly what you are asking. Are you letting the verizon ExtRom install?

ALWAYS FLASH BACK TO YOUR CARRIER'S OFFICIAL ROM BEFORE TAKING YOUR PHONE IN FOR SERVICE OF ANY KIND

No. I soft reset before the verizon customization installs. However, every time I hard reset, it overwrites a few things in EPST, as well as my WAP settings and MMS settings.

I'd like to find a way to delete the verizon customization totally, (except the arcsoft MMS software) and prevent the phone from overwriting my EPST, WAP and MMS settings after a hard reset.

well, you can flash with a blank ms.nbf which is the ExtRom. This will remove all of the Verizon ExtRom cabs. You can learn to make your own ExtRom in the Sticky thread. As far as your settings, aside from building your own rom, you can create a cab to make these changes for you and either put it in you custom ExtRom or run it manually after the hard reset.

Awesome, thanks for the help.

How would I go about making a cab for the settings? I'm a total noob to programming of any sort. Is there a thread that would give me some tips?

Download WinCE Cab Manager. It has a trial that should suit your needs. It is fairly straight forward as far as adding registry entries to change your settings. You will just have to know what they are. I assume you do if you are changing them each time.

You can try to search around either here or on the net in general for help with cab manager. It is fairly easy.

WOOHOOO!!!!!! I did it.

Colonel, Thanks a ton for your help. I couldn't have done it without you.

I managed to solve all but one issue, and that one issue is way outside of my programming realm. It's just the inputting of my modem connection.

Now, I can hard reset my phone and I only have 30 seconds of work to do when it's finished updating.

My custom extrom installs Totalcommander, PHM Regedit, Magic Button, MMS, and opera, as well as some custom cabs which modify the settings I needed to address in this thread. After the reboot, I have another cab I have to run to edit MMS server settings...

Damn, I'm excited... Thanks again Colonel. I appreciate the support.
