Alltel 6700 to Sprint flash?

I would like to know if there is ANY way to flash the ROM on the 6700 from the Alltel network to the Sprint network. And if there is a way, can someone be kind enough to link the instructions for me?

The reason that I am asking is because I already have the Sprint service with my phone and my wife's phone. My father gave me his old 6700 (from Altel) and would like to give it to my wife as an upgrade from her current phone. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Alltel 6700 to Sprint flash?

You can flash it with a Sprint ROM, but you won't be able to activate it on Sprint. They only activate ESNs of Sprint branded phones. Only way you could do it is hack a Sprint ESN into it, and believe you me that gets messy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Sprint give you the esn when you activate it?

So what I am getting here (and correct me if I am wrong again) is that as long as I get the correct rom flash on it to make it a "Sprint" phone then I could call up Sprint and say hey I have a new phone I would like to activate... they in turn give me a ESN and a phone number to program into it... and presto... a new Sprint phone. Right?

thanks for you help on this... this is a subject that I have zero experience with.

Re: Alltel 6700 to Sprint flash?

The ESN, or Electronic Serial Number, is programmed in the phone. It is on a sticker under the battery in decimal and hexidecimal form. What you are thinking of is the programming code.

Re: Alltel 6700 to Sprint flash?

Oh, well thanks for the clear up.

So, you can't call up Sprint and tell them the ESN... and have them transfer it? Well... I guess then that there is no way to really transfer an ALLTEL phone to Sprint.

Thanks anyway for all your help!

You can tell them the ESN all you want, but they won't activate it. If a phone isn't Sprint branded, they will not activate it.

Re: Alltel 6700 to Sprint flash?

Well... since I can't use the phone currently I don't see a reason why changing the ESN would be that big of a job... even if I am new. If I screw up the phone it's no lose to me... the phone was free and I could care less if it fell out a 10 floor bldg. So, that being said... can you give me a link to the thread so I can look into it?
