A disappearing phone radio indicates a hardware problem with the flash ROM on your device. I've seen at least one other person on here report that issue (he was on Sprint). I'd say take it to Verizon while the radio is showing None and get them to replace it.
As for your IP thing, why on earth are you using 169.254 on a routed network? I realize you should be able to, but if you've got a DHCP server in your router handing out addresses there's no need to use that range (which MS uses as "Automatic Private Addressing" for cases of peer-to-peer networks without a DHCP server. What's your default gateway set to? I agree that it "should" work, but if you can get it to work with a more "normal" private IP range (192.16 ![]() |

If i have radio_.nbf in the folder- nothing will be flashed- If i remove that it finds the extended rom and is ready to go..... Hense i assume something is messed up with my radio_.nbf file since it doesn't work.
I figured it was the radio ROM- BUT- it doesn't even START to flash the phone- it never shows a to: version I just tried dropping the ms_.nbf file in the directory again and it doesn't even regonize that file to apply as an update..... That doens't seem right to me (Starts instantly- no talking to the phone it seems) If i had a working radio_.nbf file to flash- i'd at least have a chance at fixing the phone.... i switched to 169.254 addresses years ago when i had a problem VPNing into another network... Used them ever since..... Now they are hardcoded in so many places it'd be a pain to change every computer- i'll probably just setup my linux box to give out a DHCP reservation to that computer on the 192.168.x.x network and route the traffic to my router correctly- that seems like a huge pain tho obviously Unfortunetly- i bought it off ebay so i doubt verizon will be very interested in replacing it.... Thank god i got the rest of it working- at least i can browse the internet and stuff even without the phone- Oh and for refence i also got a "error 120: country ID error" the first time i tried to flash it- so maybe there is wierdness with more then just the radio ROM. |

The fact that the radio ROM comes and goes on your phone is indicative of a hardware problem. Since it happened prior to you ever flashing any of the custom ROMs it could not be related to that process.
We have had some users here who inadvertantly tried to flash a hacked radio ROM image to their phones, which then failed. In trying to reflash the correct OEM radio ROM image we discovered that the RUU app will refuse to flash a radio ROM unless it can verify that there is a proper one already loaded. But yours sounds like a different problem, with the radio sometimes appearing and sometimes not (I've seen one other person report that problem--on Sprint--so it's not unique to the Verizon radio ROM). Sounds to me like that part of the flash memory may be failing. Being that you bought it (used?) off of ebay there's no telling what the previous owner may have done to it--dropped it, partially fried it, etc. Even if you can't get help from Verizon these things are supposed to have a one-year warranty through UTStarcom, so if it's less than a year old (look at the first three digits of your serial number for the build year/week) then you may be able to send it to UTStarcom directly even if Verizon won't help you. Good luck. |

Yeah the 11th week of 2006, which would be ~March 12-18. Bummer. I use Sprint so I've got no idea how Verizon handles insurance/warranty stuff. Maybe others can chime in if they know a way to get Verizon to replace it.

a 169.254.x.x address is Automatic Private IP Address
it means the computer did not find a DHCP server to obtain an IP address.. and no network connection could be made.. |

i have the same problem as you. i bought mine off of ebay, too.... i'm tempted to take it to the verizon store, and tell them i bought it off a friend who bought it from them. and maybe for like fifty bucks they'll replace it... i don't know... i have that insurance crap from esquare or something, but i just got it and now i have to send it back......
