The fact that the radio ROM comes and goes on your phone is indicative of a hardware problem. Since it happened prior to you ever flashing any of the custom ROMs it could not be related to that process.

We have had some users here who inadvertantly tried to flash a hacked radio ROM image to their phones, which then failed. In trying to reflash the correct OEM radio ROM image we discovered that the RUU app will refuse to flash a radio ROM unless it can verify that there is a proper one already loaded.

But yours sounds like a different problem, with the radio sometimes appearing and sometimes not (I've seen one other person report that problem--on Sprint--so it's not unique to the Verizon radio ROM). Sounds to me like that part of the flash memory may be failing. Being that you bought it (used?) off of ebay there's no telling what the previous owner may have done to it--dropped it, partially fried it, etc.

Even if you can't get help from Verizon these things are supposed to have a one-year warranty through UTStarcom, so if it's less than a year old (look at the first three digits of your serial number for the build year/week) then you may be able to send it to UTStarcom directly even if Verizon won't help you.

Good luck.
