Well pr8 has been done and ready to go.. that was until the SDHC drivers showed up. Would like to get the SDHC in this release as it will probably be the last WM5 update I do unless something major crops up. WM6 is probably where we will all be at some point, but that being said I have yet to even load wm6 as I have been more than happy with r8's performance and stability. I am sure I will go that route at some point, but for now it has not been worth it as the current does all I need it to do and still has room..

The only disappointment with putting in the SDHC drivers is that WM5storage apparently no longer works with them. Some people on this forum have also reported their non-SDHC memory cards disappearing again. My thought would be that you should leave it out, and let people decide if they want to install the drivers or not. But that's up to you - you've made a great ROM.

WM5storage is a great freeware program that allows me to connect my PPC to a computer without installing activesync. The 6700 becomes a card reader in effect, allowing me to transfer files directly to and from the memory card. There are pay versions for WM6 - so maybe they would work for the SDHC drivers.

Finally - does your new version of PR8 include the Java drivers that allow people to view youtube files?

I can't wait to see what the final PR8 version ends up looking like. I've loved the beta - no problems with it - it's great. I'm leery of WM6 only because I don't want to lose more RAM - but I may end up with it eventually.

PolloLoco: I added the new SDHC drivers to a new build about three days ago and have had no issues with my 2gig non sdhc card. I am still waiting to test an sdhc so I am running on the word of others that it is working for sdhc at this point. I had read about the standard cards disapearing and wanted to test just this and so far I have not had any issues with mine disapering and have not had any issues so far. As to WM5storage, I have this in pr8 and it is working with the new drivers. I was able to plug it into my laptop (that does not have activesync) and activate wm5storage. The laptop saw it as a new drive and I was able to access and play a movie off the device. If there are issues that do crop up, I will release without the new drivers. Right now I prefer to keep it in if all is working as I would like to see the PR8 match my R8 as close as possible for troubleshooting and support. For the record, I am running a 2gig kingston card (NON SDHC) for the testing. Not sure about the Java version to support youtube. The java incuded is Esmertec Jeodek Buil 20061013. I did not include the older TCPMP that supports youtube but did incude the support file are needed in the event that one was to load it themselves. This way at least those files are already in the rom.

If anyone has an SDHC card known to work and want to verify this is working in pr8 (both the card and wm5storage) pm me with your email (and post a note to the thread)and I will get you the build for test. This would not be a beta build. If its working for SDHC and I do not see errors with a non SDHC card, it will be the release build of the ROM.

Ordered a buy.com SDHC so should see it in a few days to test. Will release with or without the sdhc drivers just after that. I still have not had any issues with the standard SD card with the updated drivers at this point so am not seeing any issue so far but this could be an issue with the way the drivers were added to the rom. They should be there and should be valid, but only testing with the SDHC will tell for sure as since they are there and if they were not working the SD should fail to read in general so...

Excellent. Good job Saridnour.

About the SDHC drivers, I recommend checking the "upgrade" subforum. There's a question about 4gb and 6gb cards working with the new drivers. A mod replied that based on the recent drivers, only the 4gb sdhc cards worked. 6gb sdhc cards only showed up as 2gb.

That mod, however, was able to track down updated drivers such that larger cards WILL work. Hopefully he'll upload them for the rest of us - I'd be tempted to get a 6gb card. I think you might want to include those drivers in the final version of AKU3.5.

Unless the new drivers get posted now then it may be too late and it might just be better to releaswe with what is in now. There keeps being one more thing for this rom and I would hate to delay it yet again. I am not sure if too many people still want a pr8, but I still want to make sure to get it out and as stable as possible. If I reset and go with new drivers, I would then still need to re-test the std 2 gig card for a good amount of time prior to releasing and that gets us back to another delay...
It may just be better to go with whats been tested and make the new set an option.
Still waiting for my sdhc so we will see...

Then don't worry about it Saridnour. Go with what you've got - I'm just hoping I can install the updated drivers later. If they work like the current ones, I don't see why not.

I'd still like to see a final version of PR8, and I know there are others, so it's probably not a waste of time. Thanks.

Well, I got the SDHC card today and other than only one card reader in the house being able to read/write to it under XP... it works great The PPC under r8 is seeing it as just under 4 gig. WM5storage is able to read and write to it as well. So all looks to be good and PR8 is ready to go!

I am uploading the File now and will update the first post of this thread with the details when done.
