Greg thanks for the advice. I tried to locate the files in explorer but i am not able to see them. Is it possible that they are not there? wmodem was already enabled in the feature menu.

Elsol: Forgive me, Its been two years since I had to do this from scratch. I believe Verizon's "customizations" which run on a stock ROM also include changing the attributes of wmodem.exe and possible wmodem.lnk to "hidden", so they will not show in the stock file explorer. I highly recommend "Total Commander", free, get the one for the PPC, and it by default will show all files in a directory, if I remember correctly. If the files in ROM do not show (wmodem.exe should be a ROM file) then there is a menu "show", then uncheck "hide files in ROM". I use it often. There is a menu selection in the stock file explorer, to "show all files", it may do the same thing. I do not use it. If the above doesn't work, let me know. But I highly encourage you to flash your own ROM from the kitchen. Just the files you want for your phone, not Verizon's. gm

Greg: Thanks, I'll get total commander. I just got my Apache a couple of weeks ago and have been reading ppcgeeks for a couple of days now. I do want to flash my own rom but I want to get a good handle on what I'm doing before I dive in. I'm having trouble finding the Noobs walkthrough thread. I was on it one night, then I lost it. I'm sure I can figure this all out and I'm really excited about it. Thanks again for your time.

Greg: I installed total commander. It's a nice program. I still don't have the wmodem.lnk though. I have wmodem.exe. I made sure that the Hide files in Rom option wasn't checked.

Thats easy (for a change). You have the important file. .lnk files are merely shortcuts. You can easily make one using Total Commander. Select the wmodem.exe file, (tap it once), then tap the file menu, there will be a sub-menu like this: >>>>> (A), tap it, there will be a line "create shortcut". Do that, select the "tree" , select \windows\start menu\programs, click OK. The shortcut will appear in your start menu.

I haven't seen this problem in the thread, so...

Running Vista Home Premium. I've got the device to be recognized as a modem. It shows up in Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options. I can go into the diagnostics and press the Query Modem button, and it replies properly to almost all the AT command.

When I open the CMDA Wireless Modem application, the Modem line is greyed out with the test <No USB Modem>. The Dial button is naturally also greyed out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I was able to connect using the standard Windows dialer. What is the difference between that and CDMA_USBModem_Dialer.exe ?

The dialer that comes with it is i guess just added conveinence. But if your able to connect with EVDO speeds using Windows dialer your not missing anything really...

Uh, there is this program called WMWifiRouter that works ALOT better than this method for those with wireless.
