BuildOS Problem

I am trying to create a rom using buildOS and I have followed these instructions:

The latest installer can always be downloaded at http://ppckitchen.org/downloads/buildos.msi.
1) Download and run the installer.

2) Install to the default location.

3)
After installation you should run the Updater found at Start->Programs->PPCKitchen->Updater.

4)
Install all updates related to BuildOS and your device. This step is important because the BuildOS installer does not contain a kitchen for any devices. They are all obtained through the Updater.

5)
Now you're ready to run BuildOS. Start->Programs->PPCKitchen->BuildOS.

6)
You will be greeted with a login screen. If you have a PPCGeeks username, enter it with a new password. If you don't have a PPCGeeks username, enter the name you usually use for chat or email with a new password.

7)
Next you will see a dialog box asking you for a project file. Choose the one for your device.

BuildOS will now open the main window and you can begin choosing your options.

9)
When you're done selecting the items you'd like in your ROM, press the play button and wait for the build to complete.

10)
Now follow the onscreen instructions to flash the ROM to your device. Last Updated ( Saturday, 26 July 2008 23:25 )

The problem I am running into is after the update is done downloading and I click on install to install the update I get this error:

Can't Copy File:
ERROR:
Can't copy file PPC-BuildOs.exe

What am I doing wrong??

Re: BuildOS Problem

I had this happen to me, too. Try running the Updater from Start-Programs-PPCKitchen with the BuildOS app closed.

I got the same "can't copy" error when I ran the Updater from within BuildOS, but when I ran the Updater from the Start-Programs-PPCKitchen, it worked fine.

Re: BuildOS Problem

Is there a step-by-step guide to creating/using BuildOS to create your own rom or to install someone else's rom? I got BuildOS updated, but am still a little unsure how to use it or what to do.

That's a different problem.

When updater is run, it should close buildos (so as to avoid the can't copy buildos.exe error). Next update, if someone would be so kind as to post whether buildos closes when the update starts, I'd appreciate it.

Re: BuildOS Problem

I just downloaded the latest BuildOS.msi today (Dec 19th, 2008 ) still without being able to use the program because it will not update, due to the error of, cant copy buildos.exe. I have tried reinstalling and updating before opening Buildos.exe, after opening, while its open. nothing works. when i open the updater while buildos.exe is open, it does not close the program. Is this being worked on still? I have been trying to use this program for the past 2-3 months, without success. I have tried manualy downloading the files, but I dont know where they go. I would really like to us this program to update my phone, but im really thinking about just giving up...
