Sprint Phone. MTS carrier.
I bought my HTC apache as an "unlocked" phone, only to find out the MSL wasn't reset, and probably the phone was locked. (I don't know what else I need to do to "unlock the phone")
I managed to find a tool that resets the MSL for me, and I now have a working Sprint Phone on the MTS carrier system. However, my phone still has Sprint written all over it. At boot the Sprint splash screen shows, in the phone app SprintPCS shows, etc. The thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=27123 has a link to the OEM ROM for my carrier. When I go to flash it, I get a warning saying that this flash is not intended for my Apache. My question. If a flash will essentially reload the ROM, and if I can flash Helmi's kitchen (haven't tried, but assuming here.) then is there a risk to flashing this phone with my carrier's ROM? thanks. |

Re: Sprint Phone. MTS carrier.
First off, CDMA phones aren't "Locked" per say like the GSM Phones. The CDMA phones have an ESN (Electronic Serial Number) that belong to a certain carrier. And the Splash logo still has Sprint because the rom the phone is running has that logo in it, as far as the Phone carrier still showing as Sprint, I'm not to sure if it changed the registry in HKLM/System/State/Phone. There is a value in there for the mobile operator. I don't think flashing a different rom will hurt it, the prl is what contains the info I think, (someone correct me if I'm worng).

Re: Sprint Phone. MTS carrier.
Yeah, so I reset the MSL and re-programmed the phone (Thanks to this site!)
But can I flash my phone with my carriers ROM? Burried deep inside ePst there's still reference to the initial Sprint users email address and other such wonderful things. I'd like to make this phone as MTS looking as possible as possible. THere's probably not much benefit to it, but it's a learning experience. I know the MTS ROM will be a valid working rom, and if the risk of bricking the phone is low, then I'll try it. I know with flashing there's no guarantee, but if the odds are better than not that I'll brick my phone, then I won't even bother. Thanks for the replies. |

Re: Sprint Phone. MTS carrier.
You won't brick your phone. Just place it in bootloader (Power+Reset+Record) and start to flashing. Should work like a charm.

Re: Sprint Phone. MTS carrier.
Hmmm, Someone please PM me with this answer , Where do i go to activate my phone?
I have an HTC Touch Pro from sprint, its unlocked, I have the MSL # needed, but the MTS staff I talked to flatly refused to activate the phone. Gave some song and dance about "we cannot activate sprint ESN's..." Who do I go to in order to activate this phone? where do I go? |
