Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
Many members know how I feel about WM6 so let me first start by asking what are you trying to do with your 6700 and what are you wanting it to do? Everything is software driven and there is A LOT of software out there.

Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
I'd like to be able to get wi-fi to work and get activesync to connect. I think Verizon crippled wi-fi in WM5 because all the network options have to do with setting up modem connections and entering phone numbers but there is nothing for wi-fi.

Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
I don't know where you're getting this stuff about Verizon crippling WiFi. First off if you're running the first ROM on the first Apache's then WiFi and Radio don't work at the same time. Meaning when you turn on WiFi no calls can happen. Second WM6-6.1 is by far the best ROM's I've seen for the Apache's. The bigest thing for me is that on WM6-6.1 Direct Push E-mail works over WiFi. With WM5 is want's a cellular data connection. I find more speed and an all around better experience. And battery life for me is a big thing, WM5 is wack IMO. But that's just my prefference. And when it all comes down to it it's about what fits your personal needs and wants. Some people like the upgrade and there other's like weedahoe prefer WM5. It's all your call so experiment with several ROMs and find which one works best for you. Enjoy!

Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
Well, PDAPhoneJunkie I have no idea what you are talking about but phone is off and wi-fi is on. Will wi-fi work in WM6 or not? It doesn't do anything in WM5 since all the options are for setting up modems and phone numbers but it's supposed to have wi-fi so there must be some version of firmware that makes it work, yes?

Quote:
Yes...WiFi works in ROMs for this phone, Be it WM5 WM6 or WM6.1. It's not in Settings for Modems. The WiFi option is on the Communication Manager, the icon to that can be found right next to the battery meter on the bottom right of the screen or ComManager in Programs then click on WiFi. |

Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
Well, to answer your initial question, WM6 offers native html email (pictures) and Windows Live as major features. WM6.1 offers native IE zooming and threaded text messaging. These features can be had in WM5 with the correct software so, as everyone is saying, it is strictly a matter of choice if you feel that these features are important to you. I have a WM6 ROM that works great and email looks just like on the PC. That was important to me.
The ROM will not ultimately determine if WIFI or Bluetooth will work but it may have some influence that we don't know (see posts where WIFI or BT isn't working quite right after upgrade). There is something else underlying your inability to connect to WIFI but more troubleshooting is needed. It definitely worked for me out of the box (WM5) and now with WM6 and I'm on Verizon. So, we need more info, e.g. can you connect to unsecured networks anywhere else? If you can there may be a router setting problem at your home for instance. The 6700 only does "b" protocol. My experience is that there is minimal settings that you can change outside of providing security keys/passwords for secured networks to connect to WIFI. You turn on WIFI and it starts to detect available networks. We would be glad to work with you to get your WIFI to work as it should. Edit: Oh, and Activesync works fine also, USB or Bluetooth, and we can help there as well. Don't give up so easily! Do you have all of the VZW upgrades to WM5? Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
The Communication Manager just lets me turn wi-fi ON. There's still no way to make it work in I.E. 4 instead of having it try to dial and nothing that tells how to configure it so it works! I have both an 802.11b access point and 802.11g wireless router that are unsecured that both work fine with my laptop. I can see them both when I start the 6700 and connect to one of them but after that nothing happens. When I try to use I.E. it just give an error that it's not able to connect.

Re: Does WM6 Have any Benefits?
The settings are a little different in WM5 and I don't remember. Do you have Start>settings>connection tab>WLAN>Power Mode tab>set slider to "best performance"? Have you deleted cookies/history in IE? When's the last time you did a hard reset?
There really is no config necessary in IE. It just takes the internet connection and runs. Last edited by gambatte; 08-07-2008 at 09:12 PM. |
