clean and simple for sprint update???

I love the clean and simple 3.5 for sprint phone. It is much faster, it gets rid of the junk you don't want, and only includes a few programs that are very basic, very necessary, and very free!
That allows me to then install the programs that I choose, not someone else.... and the included sprint interface is great for dumb people like me...

HOWEVER the clean rom 3.5 needs some fixes...
Here are a few known ones that seem to be a case for most people:

+ active sync is left running and drains the battery fast
(I'm having NO issues with battery drain, it is much better than before actually... )

+Modem over USB does not work "COM OPEN ERROR"

+Internet sharing does not work "CHECK USB CABLE"

+Unable to turn off advanced network functions "Failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial"

+Built in mms does not work (not received at other end) ... (I suggest taking this out and providing the mms program w/ sprint settings seperate, but zipped with the rom.

-many of the other reported problems seem to be due to people not hard reseting after flashing, or conflicts with third party programs.

I do not know how to cook and would not be able to figure out these bugs... however if ANYONE can try to fix these issues and issue an updated "clean" rom of 3.5 for sprint, it would be damn near perfect!!!

Please, any of you awesome cookers out there, can you tackle the problems in the clean&simple for sprint 3.5 rom and re-release it???
I'm begging!!!! I love the usb modem as a back-up, but at the same time I love how 'stripped/clean' and fast this rom build is. Any takers on this challenge?

Internet Sharing does work and it was a surprise!

Actually, ...err... Psychotic, the internet sharing feature does work and it is divine! I would get the same error message. One day, I was playing with it and clicked connect while unplugged thinking it would give me some sort of error message. However, I got a broadband connection instead! All you have to do is wait until it reads connected and then plug it in -directly, will not work on hub usb's- and presto! broadband access.
In theory, as long as you stick to the same browsing habits that you do on the phone, sprint cannot tell whether it is the phone or the pc that is accessing the internet. I have been told that it is the download habits that they look for; that is, download a whole linux distro and you are caught!
Concerning the mms, I just reinstalled the all in one cab and then did the registry edits and ...err... BAM! This time, I did not even bother to try more than once; I just went ahead and did it out right as I had heard that this was a sticking point.
Nevertheless, kudos to Kervin on the best rom now, please someone please tame active sync!!

Psychotic, I think you may want to post these suggestions in Kirvin's thread

Are you saying just press connect without the usb plugged in and then plug it in after??? cause I've tried it with the usb unplugged and then plugging it in, and It just sat with an error. Does the error still appear during the broadband connection working??

What reg edits did you do to remove the built in mms after reinstalling???

Also- since the modem dials #777, which is just the power vision connection, it is too hard for them to enforce a way to disable it. Also, you CAN download a whole linux distro they do not enforce it at all. Because you paid for the power vision service, and it is their responsibility to somehow limit the modem to a pay only option, but as a function of windows and the phone its not worth the effort. so really, download whatever you want, its not your fault and you will not be bothered I like how fast it is, I was surprised as I expected it to be dial-up speed at most. The pages appear almost instantly.... I'd have to guess the speed is somewhere just below dsl???

Will do, I didn't at first simply cause I saw a lot of questions with no answers and recently no posts from kirvin, but I guess that would be the *proper* place to put it. I just wanted it to have more attention, as so many like the clean type of rom.

Not all the questions have answers. A lot of those issues are known bugs with this kitchen, and won't be "fixed" until the official ROM project build is released. Also, keep in mind that my releases are free, unsupported "as-is" projects. I'm trying to cobble together enough time to post an updated build, but as I don't have access to the official project builds (not on the team) it's going to be a while.

If you have insurmountable "deal breaker" issues with this ROM I suggest downloading the offical 2.x from for your carrier from http://www.utstar.com and install that.

As you can see, I did post this for Jeff... and he seems to think I am requiring him to support his release... I'm only pointing out bugs. while other cookers work to fix the bugs in their releases, as well as take user input... jeff seems to have lashed back at me and is telling me to go back to 2.2...(obviously completely missing the point of my post)... hence why the post was aimed to "ANY of the awesome cookers out there...and... ANY TAKERS ON THE CHALLENEGE...." it doesn't say "Jeff Kirvin", it seems he does not wish to try and make these corrections. He 'stepped on some toes' by using the pre-release of the unified rom and not giving 'proper credit'... which I could care less.... but at the very least that means it should be no issue for someone to take Jeff's work, fix it, and release it as their own.....

Also, jeff... you don't have to talk down to me, I know who makes our phone, I know how to click 'guide for newbies' and therefor I know how to get to the official release at * WWW.UTSTAR.COM

Didn't mean to lash out or talk down. I'm just pointing out that the bugs you're interested in are already being worked on (by the ROM team) and that any side projects to retrofit Shawn's pre-release is just duplicated effort.

Re: battery life. I've found that turning off MS Direct Push completely solves the problem on my device.
