New to PPC and xv6700

Hello, I'm new to PPC phones and to this forum. I purchased a xv6700 on Ebay and expect to receive it any minute. I very well versed in the use of computers, troubleshooting, etc. I'm just new to PPC/Smart phones. The only PDA I've used is a Palm Tungsten E.

My primary use of the xv6700 will be as follows:

1. Basic phone plan through Verizon. No data plan.
2. Wifi hotspot connectivity for Internet, Email, remote desktop. (Any suggestions on alternate browsers?)
3. Calenar/Appointment use
4. Installation and use of HandBase

With that in mind, 3 requests:

1. If anyone has any suggestions for me on how to get started--what to do, not to do--how to make things easier, please speak up.

2. Are there software preinstalled on the XV6700 by Verizon or Windows Mobile 5 that I can safely remove?

3. Are there any tweaks anyone can recommend to improve or increase speed? Browsing/Internet, system/CPU processing, etc. (I'm comfortable using Registry editors if need be.

Thanks. Looking forward to hearing from many of you.

Use the link in my signature to get the OEM verizon ROM and flash your phone with it. This will get rid of any crap the previous owner put in it and make activating it much easier. Once you get it activated, read through the stickies about tweaks and upgrades.

Re: New to PPC and xv6700

Welcome. I'll make it a little easy for you. Here are some tweaks:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11799

But, yes, read the stickies. There's alot of info here and good discussion. I'm on VZW and use it just like you plan to...told them to disable the outrageous data plan!

you will definitely need this program to completely close programs. i find tman to be a very helpful application, you could also use magic button.

I highly recommend buying a Seidio battery or an extended battery. And keep your wifi off when your not using it.

Re: New to PPC and xv6700

Thank you all for your suggestions so soon after posting. A forum member at PDAPhoneHome recommeded PPCGeeks because of the helpful members and steady traffic. This sure proves it.

I'll go through your suggestions in greater detail when I get the phone. I'm sure I'll have a bunch more questions.
