PPC-6700: Need help getting USB internet connection sharing to work

I am using Vista SP1 on my PC and WM 6.1 on my PPC-6700 (Sprint). I am unable to use internet connection sharing via USB. I had no trouble getting it to work with BT, though.

When my PPC-6700 is connected to the PC, it shows up as functioning properly in Device Manager as Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. On my PPC-6700, I click on ICS > USB > Connect, and it shows I’m connected.

So obviously I’m missing a step to tie this all together. Any help would be appreciated.

All you need to do is plug it in via USB and that should be it. You may have to go to the network sharing tab and connect to the network. it should come up as "network" then that is it. I use this almost all day long while at work for checking my personal e-mail while at work among other things. Works like a charm. If you need a step by step PM me and I'll jot down the exact process but it is really just plug and play. Also make sure you have the advanced network functionally checked on your USB to PC settings. when un checked I could not get to the internet.

On the Vista Network and Sharing page, I show "unidentified network". In the properties of the "unidentified network", it shows "limited connectivity" under Access and "local area connection 2" under connection. This tells me Vista is finding the hardware, but something is blocking the traffic.

This is a new laptop which came preloaded with Norton Internet Security which I haven't used before. The personal firewall was on and I turned it off. The Windows firewall is off. I wish there was some way to turn off all features of Norton Internet Security to see if that is even the problem. I really don't want to uninstall it at this point.

If you have an idea what might be blocking the traffic or what I should change in Norton, please let me know.

I am still confused why BT works and USB doesn't.

Re: PPC-6700: Need help getting USB internet connection sharing to work

Hey, I know this is old, but I have had the same problem with "unidentified network". I recentley uninstalled Norton, apparentley not all the files are removed....that caused my computor to see I was connected, but would not let me actually connect. Found this on a website...and so glad, I was going crazy!!! want to help anyone else out....It worked immediatley!!!! Saved it to an external usb/hard drive and loaded it up!!

I had the same "unidentified network-local access only" problem after removing Norton Anti-virus. The issue turned out to be that the regular Windows unistall doesn't fully get rid of it. You need to run Norton's own removal utility:

Good luck!!!

I would also recommend running either ccleaner or ncleaner to clear the registry of entires that are void and are not removed. I use both every couple of weeks just to keep things "tidy". helps over all system speed and stability as well (for your pc not your ppc).
