Raging Idiot question of the day. Need for Feed...

edit: Got GMobileSync and OggSync to work. Just needed the full .net cf2 installed in the ROM (this is currently in BigJ's ROM)

I would like a way to be updated (via 6700) of my scheduled meetings.
These meetings are in calendar format on a website and apparently can be fed to regular desktop system by way of the methods listed below.
I want a way to see these meetings in calendar format on my phone. Ideally it would be updated automatically (no syncing to pc) and would be in calendar format. What program is recommended that can do this for the 6700?

Quote:
Subscribe to a feed of your groups' events: RSS · Atom · iCal · Outlook
Quote:
How do these calendar links work?

These links allow you to add your meetings to some popular calendar applications. MS Outlook (2003 and up), Apple iCal, Google Calendar and Mozilla Calendar can all read the iCalendar format. Yahoo uses it's own format.

For MS Outlook, click the "Outlook" link to download the file to your desktop. Open up Outlook and import the file you downloaded. Outlook cannot subscribe to the feed and automatically update with changes.

For Apple iCal or Mozilla Calendar, click the "iCal" link and the calendar program should start up automatically and import the event(s). Both of these programs can automatically update with changes.

For Google Calendar, right click on the "Outlook" link and copy the link. (Select "Copy shortcut" or "Copy link location"). Then, open Google Calendar, and on the left, click the "+" sign next to "Other Calendars". On the "Add Other Calendar" page, click "Public Calendar Address" and paste the link into the form there. The calendar should automatically update with changes. (Note: Sometimes Google calendar takes a few tries before the feed takes-- if it's giving you an error message, please try entering the feed link again.)

For Yahoo Calendar, you can only copy individual events from the event detail page (where you RSVP). You can't currently copy multiple events at a time, and the calendar will not automatically update to changes.

You need a RSS reader... there are several different ones you can check out and evaluate:

Egress
Pocket RSS
Newbreak
Siteline

There are a few others I'm forgetting--hopefully others can suggest some. I'm not currently using an RSS reader on my PPC (not happy with any of 'em) so I don't really have a recommendation.

Edit: None of these will integrate with Outlook. RSS is too broad for that--it's mainly used to keep people abreast of new articles appearing on sites.

Apparently others have been able to get GmobileSync and OggSync to work with Google Calendar on their 6700.

Perhaps they have a different ROM or programs installed on their phone which allows for the dependencies to already be in place.

Still not working for me...but will keep everyone updated.

It probably works for others because they are syncing their own personal Google calendar and not a published 3rd party calendar.

Google Calendar updates just fine. It consolidates all 6 of my other calendars into one Calendar and works perfect while viewing on my desktop pc.

The solution I'm trying to get, is

I want a calendar app on my phone (don't care what app it is) to auto sync with Google Calendar.

Was then told that I could use either GmobileSync or OggSync for this purpose.

I install the programs just fine. There isn't any settings needed to be set that I can see. Just hit the sync button.
Then, it comes back with error stating something to the effect that it is potentially missing POutlook dependencies.

Maybe there's an incompatibility with AKU 3.x? Did you try with an official ROM to see if it works?

I haven't tried official ROM to see if it works.

My raging suspicion tells me it has something to do with the .Net framework or something missing from POutlook.

I hope someone that has one of these latest rom releases will have better luck. Otherwise, we might be looking at a bunch of people getting frustrated when they eventually try to get this to work and can't figure out that something was broken by this release.

I'm running my own ROM based of the last kitchen posted and the free version of OggSync works great. On OggSync after selecting freeware the settings are in menu.

Thanks for the report nizzo. RI it sounds like maybe a problem with Saridnour's ROM. Maybe try a newer/different custom ROM and see if you have better luck.

Let us know if you get it to work!

I checked the gmobile sync google support group (as found on Gmobile Sync website) and seen somewhere to first check a link first...I checked the stated link and then posted the following results for more answers. No one has yet to answer.
-------------------------
Stated in support to first check this link:

“Click on this link: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds...t/private/full
and it should prompt your for your Google Account username and
password”

On desktop pc I tried both with Firefox and MicrosoftInternetExplorer.
First attempt opens without asking my password.
Then found that Google Calendar had kept me logged in….so I logged
out.

Then tried to open again. and received this: “Authorization Required”
“Error 401″

On PPC6700 (with Saridnour ROM 3.5.4sp1) upon sync I receive
this message:
“Unexpected error” “PocketOutlook or one of it’s dependencies was not
found”

Then I asked for helped. Received POutlook dll files and placed them
all in the GMobileSync directory.

Then same error repeats.

——————⠀”—————⠔—————†—————— ——————⠀”——-
Thoughts/complications-
My first impression was that the error was due to the modified
configurations of my specific 6700.
Oggsync also does not work and gives similar error.
My Google Calendar is setup like this….
Default “My Calendars” (has nothing in it)
and the other one labled “Other Calendars” (has many events in it)

The “Other Calendars” is actually a feed from 6 calendars consolidated
into this one Google Calendar.
——————⠀”—————⠔—————†—————— ——————⠀”——–
So there you have it. I tried to write this as simple yet thorough as
possible, but let me know if anything else might be of benefit.
