New PPC6700 - Need Help With Cricket

Hi everyone,

I just got a new PPC6700 (new in the box, as in never used), it already has Windows Mobile and is supposedly got Cricket software on it to. There's a Cricket directory I can see on it with some *.prl files in it.

So, I want to get this phone working on Cricket first before I load Apache on it, to be sure it works Ok. But, I can't figure out how to do it. I gave Cricket my ESN and I did the typical *228 thing for new phones, but that doesn't work. I get that message - something like "The number of spc attempts failed 15 times from the network."

Anybody know how to get past this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm an old timer with Windows (and Linux) but entirely a newbie with Windows Mobile, so I'm sort of clueless what to do to get it hooked up.

Re: New PPC6700 - Need Help With Cricket

Searching the forum is sometimes faster than waiting for a response. And there aren't alot of Cricket users here. I just did a search for "cricket activate" and came up with this but don't know if it will help you or not..

I've never actually activated a phone before, always bought it at the store and they activated it. Doesn't Cricket have any stores? Hopefully a Cricket user will respond. Good Luck.

I think I have the settings correct except for one thing: I need to figure out how to change the SPC code to 000000 - and it appears that I need to use QPST to do that - correct?

Re: New PPC6700 - Need Help With Cricket

Thanks for the pointers. I got everything working (even unlocked the SPC) - except the Internet over cell service. I went in and changed the dial number to #777, changed the username to ##########@mycricket.com (using my phone number), set the psw to 'cricket', and changed the proxy settings (HTTP and Socks) to use wap.mycricket.com on port 8080.

But, I still can't connect to the Internet even though I do have paid Internet access through cricket.

Anybody know why this might happen?

Re: New PPC6700 - Need Help With Cricket

Thanks, I'd read that already, and a few other similar posts - tried them all (basically the same thing in each post). According to posts on this forum my Internet connection is configured properly. But for whatever reason when the phone dials #777 to connect it can't connect.

Anybody have a clue? I'm willing to pay someone to help me get Internet access working with Cricket....

Re: New PPC6700 - Need Help With Cricket

So, I got ArcSoft installed for MMS and all that went fine. But, I can't send MMS msgs because that requires a data connection apparently - when trying to send one I get the same error I get when trying to connect to the Web:

"Dialed #777 - Cannot connect for unknown reason [ etc etc etc]"

I even tried forcing my connection to use a 1x connection instead of EVDO (via a simple registry hack) and it still won't work.

This is too weird. Does anybody here have a ppc6700 with Apache that can do both MMS and cellular-based Internet?

Are there any known software conflicts that might prevent it from working? I've been searching and reading and so far haven't come up with anything to explain nor solve this problem.

Could it be that that Cricket is blocking access from non-Cricket phones?
