Talking New here! switching to cricket with a new 6700

Hello Wonderful forum! I was sent here from a few members on xda.

I just lost my job and such so I can no longer afford t-mobile. I had an HTC-s260 with 6.1 ext rom ver.24 and a whole bunch of goodies.

So now my only choice is cricket, I decided to upgrade while downgrading to help even it out so I bought a verizon xv6700 but unfortunately it still has WM5

I wan't to upgrade it to the newer rom from you guys (kitchen) but I'm unsure how. I wan't all the goodies you guys have and the touchflow and such. I just paid $60 to activate a new cricket account and get my phone flashed for cricket. I was wondering if I do upgrade it will I have to reflash it? So basicly what I need is a hand to help guide me through all this so sombody reach out for me! thanks!

I guess it is all a matter of opinion but you can do the same things that WM6/6.1 does with the proper software in WM5. So, my point is don't upgrade just to upgrade. Read alot of posts in the main and upgrade subforum to get an idea of the terminology, e.g. bootloader, kitchen, RUU, ext ROM, etc. So you can adequately describe a problem if you should have one. This tutorial is good for basic concepts, though new kitchens exist with slightly different procedures:

There are even youtube videos:

Anytime you change the ROM you have to reflash it. The carrier specific info is in the ROM so you don't need to reactivate. This forum is alot more active than xda and everyone is really helpful. Now start reading!

Nope, just specify carrier in the kitchen. You do lose all data (contacts, calendar, etc.) so back these up b4 you flash.

Well, you just have to experiment. ROM cooking is not by recipe. Just take note of your bootloader version as you WILL have trouble with ROM size and certain bootloaders. Also, try to use XP and Activesync 4.5. I encourage you to read and search, e.g. TouchFLO:

You can install any program you want post-flash. Just be careful modding the phone. It is like any computer system...don't challenge the hardware resources.

Re: New here! switching to cricket with a new 6700

Ok, thanks for your reply. I actually stumbled upon touchflo by searching before you posted.

The program I'm really trying to find is the one that does the contact backup like sms back up or somthing like that I can't remember the name. I'd really appreciate it if you can help me with this one...

Cheers
