Cabs?

How is everyone? New to the forum as this is also my first post. Though there were some slight setbacks, I have cooked a rom and am now up and running. Let me say, this is sweet! Last week I was looking at trading this phone in until I landed here. I actually came up on this site by accident. My phone would'nt show streaming video due to an error. Did some searching on the problem and was link to this site relating to upgrading apps. Anyway, I am successful, at an upgrade, mine you, after 5 cooks. My setback was too many apps. Screen was frozen on the first splash page. Lennys cook is what i used.. (verizon) apache xv6700 w/2.02 is what I have.

somewhere I read about installing even more apps by way of cabs. Is this true? If so, can someone point me to this listing. See, I believe I have uploaded close to my limit, but I still have major storage left and there are a few other apps or programs that I would like to install. If my memory serves me correct, the info. I read stated that transfering the cabs, it's doable to load from the cab..then again, maybe I'm seeing things, but if I am, I know you guys will set me straight.

Re: Cabs?

Welcome to the site and hope you learn as much as I have. Cab files are apps that install natively on the 6700. So you just download the file on the 6700 and tap to install. Other apps install with .exe files and you install with Activesync via PC. Download to PC and install. It's nice to mod your phone but be wary as some apps don't play well with others, just like the Windows world. So, just because you have alot of space, if the phone is running well, leave it alone. LOL. A nice freeware site is :

Re: Cabs?

yes just think of what u want and you will find it here. Go to youtube. Watch some PPC videos with mods. If you like it, Search it here. And one more thing for terminologies, U didn't cook the rom. U flashed ur rom with the cooked rom from our dedicated chefs. see ppckitchen.net if I am right.

Re: Cabs?

Nice site. Thanks. Actually the few things I want to add are portions from the kitchen. Some of those apps have a link to a site with the cabs there. I understand where you coming from regarding compatibility of the apps. That's why I am looking at those related to the kitchen.

Re: Cabs?

you "cook" a rom with a kitchen. then you "flash" your phone with a rom.

cab files are install files for windows mobile. not just the 6700.

you can download cab files. transfer them to your phone. then run the cab file. it will ask you if you want to install the program. you can install cab files on your storage card. if you have a large SD card then the number of programs you can install is limited only by the size of the card.

the ROM you are running doesnt make some programs work or not work. all the roms run windows mobile 5, 6,or 6.1. even programs made for WM 2003 will mostly work. ill say that a good 90% of all wm software out there will run on any device with any rom. as long as its windows mobile. that said , there are a few exeptions.(hardware specific, gps, video camera, hard buttons, screen orientation)

yes, you can cook a rom that is too big for your phone. if this is the case. only cook a rom with the essential programs, then install the extra software using cab files.

you can google search for 'pocket pc freeware' and will find some great programs for your phone.

i do think we should make a begginers page on this forum though. like a FAQ or glossery or somthing. anyone to start one?

Re: Cabs?

Thanks for correcting me on the difference of cook and burn. So the cabs are different than the rom and I can dowload the few apps not burned and run them like that.? sweet.
