if you didnt have a backup of your contacts anywhere (or hell even a copy of your pim.vol somewhere) you're probably screwed.
this happened to me when i paired my phone with my pc after a reformat and before installing outlook. luckily everything was in my .pst file backup though ... |

also I use Dashwire (free service)..for online storage..just incase pimback fails on me.

The same thing happened to me once. Look in outlook/deleted items on your PC, they should all be there.
