Help with stuck phone mode

I hope someone can shed some light on this as I haven't found much on the subject or if it's actually a software issue or not.

I bought a used "was told it was new" ppc6700 off fleabay recently and activated it the other day. I've been reading up on new roms and such and decided to go with Colonel's Custom 3.3 Rom. I updated the phone to the 2600 and radio update from HTC's site I believe and then updated to 3.3.

Now before any of the updates were applied I could not get the earpiece (not speaker) to output any sound. I would have figured if it was software the rom updates would have taken care of it? On the phone pad screen there is an icon that looks like crosshairs within a scope that has a forward slash through it. This has always been there and seems to me that it's related to the earpiece not enabled? I've tried pluggin in and out the headset which works, disabled my bluetooth which works and can get it to output to the back speaker but not the earpiece on the phone itself?!

Any help mucho appreciated.

sounds like the headphone jack is stuck. This happened on almost all of my PPC phones. To fix I just put some WD-40 on the end of a headphone plug and did the whole insert-remove a bunch of times... And dont be gentle either.

Cool thanks! I found that the crosshair icon is the GPS service which was turned off. I'll give it a shot..

So I tried the wd-40/alcohol headphone jack "ol' in and out" method and no go. I don't know if this problem is the same that most people report as the sound never comes out the handset ear speaker but does in speaker phone, headphone and bluetooth.

I ran a phone code and saw that it was refurbished back in sept. (man did i get ripped off!)

Anyone think it's still the jack and or if I should have it fixed? I found this place that does repairs..
