Wanting to upgrade my OS

Hello All,
I have a HTC Pocket PC 6700 and i wanted to know if it was possible to install Windows Mobile 6. Is it worth it? Will it be slow? How would i install it? I am a newbie in the Pocket PC world but have been in IT for many years. If it would be tedious, i would not mind as long as it is really worth it.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Regards,
Syed.Zaidi

Re: Wanting to upgrade my OS

This is the tutorial I used by Ga.Medic etal. Easy to follow cooking instructions. Read until you feel comfortable doing it.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...light=gguruusa

As far as "worth it", I am happy with it and I don't notice any speed difference faster or slower. But the things you can do natively, e.g. html mail, can be done with other software. You do lose Pocket MSN if that is important to you but you gain Windows Live. The upgrade is WM6 Pro so you get the better Office applications. I cooked MS Voice Command 1.5 which is fun. Dunno, what's one man's trash is another's treasure.

Re: Wanting to upgrade my OS

Actually its even easier than the tutorials make out.

Here is my n00b guide (btw 2 weeks ago I didn't know what a pocket PC was, and have since upgraded to WM6 and cooked several ROMS, so this really is the guide for dummies)

1) Install microsoft .Net 2.0 framework from microsoft website.
2) Decide wether you want the tried and tested WM 6 or the newer, but potentially buggy wm6.1
3) Download the appropriate kitchen for the OS.
4) Install it.
5) If you chose wm6 download the ppc geeks OEM.rar to the buildOS directory where you installed the kitchen
6) If you chose wm6.1 run updater to get the OEM.rar
6) Run BuildOS, make your selections and click play.

Done

This is a breif overview - any problems or questions - SEARCH
