This is also my thoughts as well. There are a lot of programs loaded that I will never use, nor have any idea of what they are.

Please give this a considerations and thank you again for your hard work!

Once I figure out the ROM kitchen, I will build a 'naked' ROM for us to use. Then I will start a thread to help build custom ROMs. First though...I need to learn ROM kitchen and for that to happen I need work to lighten up. I'll let everyone know when this is to happen!

You know what would be great, if someone thats "bored" or whatever, cooks up an automated process/program where all the basic rom stuff (naked rom?) is in and where we just add all the packages/programs we want into it (where when we hard reset, all our wanted programs install)

I think that would be a greater help to all of us that niether have the time or expertise to cook up our own rom.

Sorry to threadjack a little bit, but I thought this might be slightly relevant.

Sure I can make a naked rom, but it really will not save you any space as far as what the end user can access. Besides, there is already a naked rom in the stock 3.3 that Helmi_c gave us.

As far as the "nonessential" apps, they are not removable. Do not worry about this though because it is in no way taking up any more you your usable space on the device. If you do not want them in your Start\Programs folder, then use File Explorer and go Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete any shortcuts that you do not want. This will remove the icons from the programs menu.

I think this is one of the things that is still a matter of confusion. Check out this thread.

Sure a naked rom would be nice, but then you are actually only going to actually use up program and storage memory my adding files, even to the storage card.

The intent of this rom was to create something that a base user could load and have useful freeware apps and known issue fixes in it.

speaking of quick fixes

Colonel,

Have you seen anything about the change in Daylight savings time and wether we should be putting this patch into your custom rom so that when march rolls around our phones will be on top of it, or will they notice when the network time changes?

was reading a bit about this at the following link
http://www.edgeblog.net/2007/dayligh...ws-mobile-fix/

In regards to the naked vs custom roms, we just don't need apps that do the same thing causing problems because they are both installed trying to run and interferring with each other, I don't have much experience with electronics and programming speciffically but if two magic button type programs (I dont' know if that is a good example but seems to be the program that is possibly most duplicated) are both trying to run for example, perhaps that would drain the battery like crazy and be why only some people have seen that problem
Just a thought

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Well, on the plus side, .Net2 being in the Rom saves us alot space rather than being installed later, so mayby it won't run so bad in the rom...
Anybody know?

I agree with Colonel, but I also think that anything we could cram into the rom is to our BENEFIT because we wont lose precious space loading it later.
Thats why I focus on system programs in the begining, then all personal goodies later...

EDIT:
Have any rom files been UPXed like in the 2.2beta2 rom?
This also increases speed of files, so mayby we should see if the .NET2 program can be UPXed...

Didn't even think of Helmi_c's as being "naked" but you are correct there. That would be in fact a "stock" ROM for us.

Great point about daylight savings time.

mrailing over at pdaphonehome.com addresses the issue (with a link to a patch) in this thread:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...light=daylight

Certainly might want to look at incorporating this patch.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome idea! As long as any naked rom includes .Net CF 2 as well as all the fixes and reg tweaks. The apps be the only thing not included so we can customize at will.

Thanx Colonel! This is great.
