Personally in the next version I would like to see Onlock, TCMP, Flashlight, Live Search, definitely O2, the crossbow theme, and the task manager to be taken out.
I love Total Commander in this as well as CF 2 for sure as all the other tweaks. I just don't use those other apps and have seen many issues with O2 in the past as well as with your beta. Thanx Colonel for all your hard work on this. |
THis Sprint PST.exe thing is really messing up my Phone dialing options me think. So far 611, *228 numbers aren't working. It still dialed Sprint PCS even though I reflashed with Verizon ROM. Don't know which settings it changed that are displayed in the ##778 screen.
Can somebody post all the screenshots of the EPST from verizon? Please don't forget to blur out your phone number. Thanks much. |
when i check my rom version it says rom version 2.11.20 wwe rom date 04/04/06 and yes im sure i did the update as i have ur extended rom files installed
|
Hot damn, Colonel--you rock! (and all those who came before to make this possible)
Can't wait to see where this goes... this might mean skipping the PPC-6800 ;) Todd/Indy |

colonel, thank you very much. I will be installing this rom sometime this weekend. I am very excited about the files that you loaded in the rom...i personally swear by o2 plus. Its 50x faster than phone alarm and much lighter, although not as pretty. But for the performace, i'll sacrifice the pretty phone alarm skins.
I'll post some feedback for fine tuning ;-) Thanks again! -s |

Here is the thread about it. The pro version is another screen lock written from the ground up be me, while the regular version invokes the built in lock. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...wn+screen+lock |
colonel-
This is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I hate providing suggestions since you are doing this for little to no compensation, but I am going to do so anyway since you are stated you are open to suggestions. I would love if it were possible to go through and delete the programs that you have cooked directly into the ROM (i.e. O2Plus, TCPMP, etc.) Since I have a 2GB MiniSD card, having TCPMP on the ROM itself is kind of pointless for me. Also, I don't use O2Plus or Flashlight, so being able to delete these programs would be a space saver. I'm sure we all have different opinions with what should be kept and what shouldn't. Thus, if we were able to PERSONALLY customize the customization, it would be incredible. Again, thank you SOOOO much for what you've done, along with everyone else who has ported this ROM. Absolutely top notch hacking. |
Cant install threaded app?
Everything looks great! thanks for the hard work. I cant seem to install the threaded app? Anyone else have this issue?
|
Nope threaded app works like a charm for me. tell exactly wat ur problem is and maybe i can help. also remember not to try to overwrite those 12 files, we now have AKU 3.3. For those of you that dont want stuff cooked into the rom, u might want to try extracting the nk.nbf file from it like colonel said in the first post of this thread. Sooner or later there should be bare roms and everybody will be happy. :D

Flawless install, pretty painless... No major hickups so far... Sprint PPC 6700.
After all the comotion of the last week, I have actually begun looking forward to hard setting my 6700... wow, never thought I would say that... Thanks all for their hard work and input ... Especially: Mike - for the leading the charge Helmi_c - for his amazing work on AKU 3.3 for our Apache and Colonel - this custom rom. Can't wait to see what comes next...! |
This is my 1st ROM upgrade from an almost flawless BellMobility 2.2 implementation
I'd like to throw in my thank you to the Colonel,Mike and of course Helmi the wonder hacker for this and other projects he's involved in. This is so cool and with the tools and instructions found on this site I think I might just take the plunge and try cooking my own. |
Colonel,
I'm planning on taking a couple days off work this week to cook my own ROM. Just looking for some advice here. I want to keep CF2 in and Voice Dialer out, so... 1) should I try to cook from your ROM, removing the items that are there, but I don't want, and adding what I do want or 2) should I start from Helmi_C's ROM and add in CF2, remove Voice Dialer, and add what I want If I go option 2, could you pass me some tips on getting CF2 in and Voice Dialer out? That is the method I'm leaning toward right now, as I want the leanest ROM possible, with the tweaks needed to get 3.3 going (pic & vid fixed, etc...) I'll release it publicly for all to try if they choose once I'm done. |
Possible Future Addition Suggestion
I personally would rather just have the X close the apps and not have a "full featured" task manager.
smclose, http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/, does just that. There's no config screen. Hell, there's no ANY screen. Just run the app and it takes over the X and makes it close apps! Can this be included in rom in the future? Also, and I realize this might be asking too much, but can you cook one with MSVC 1.6 in ROM? Thanks! |
I'm also working the ROM Kitchen one Yuma...
.NET2.0 - see http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?opt...4,23392,page=6 About halfway down that page is the .net2.0 OEM package... Looks like the version Helmi put up does have .NET 1.0 in it, so you'll need to rip that out of OS\f50e9a40-aed9-497a-bdea-84451210e960, I have not done that yet. You'll also want to figure out which package installs voice dial - I have not found that one yet (but I want to keep that in mine...) If you go the Rom Kitchen Route, post what you do in this thread: http://ppcgeeks.com/aku-3-3-helmi-c-...t-d-t2313.html |
JKingGrim, I guess I missed that latest version. The one in this rom has been working fine for me so I didn't think you needed any imporvement. I will give it a spin. Don't know how it will play with the one embedded in the rom though.
6700Yuma, hang tight. Either in the Custom rom thread or possibly in a new section I will be posting "modules". These modules will include the files, shortcuts, registry entries, and flashfile entries necessary to install apps. Once these things are packaged up nicely, it should be a piece of cake to just download and cut and paste into the rom. I will get the .Net CF 2.0 and Voice Dialer stuff posted as soon as I get home. Basically all I did for the Voice Dialer was remove the exe, lnk, and dlls along with registry entries found in the thread "cab to remove voice dialer" or something like that. |

Yeah, I will be putting in a close feature. I had tried to get the HTC app from the custom 2.2 rom in this release, but I had some issues getting it to work. I will look at the one you posted. There will definitely be something in the next release to perform this function. |
I think posting the modules is absolutely the way to go. Dropping them in the kitchen and flashing looks like it couldn't be any easier.

So, I guess I will await your modules system and try adding a module for VC... What would it take to get a custom build for me personally? I can even send you my proof of VC purchase! I just don't know that I have the patience to make my own... |
Dumb Question
I read somewhere about just installing the apps you want onto your device and making all the desired reg hacks then using wm5 dumper to back it up then making a rom from that.
Or something like that. Is that something that can be done? Can I start with the ApacheAKU3.3 on my dev and just add the apps and hacks I want then use the dumper to create the rom? I realize I sound kinda lame and stupid, but I just don't have the patience to learn the cooker stuff.. I just want it easy! I love your custom though! |
Just curious; are you aware that when you get a notification it kicks on the bluetooth connection? And that the connection stays open until you use the bt device?
I have been getting the vc prompt and "cancel"ing. Just wanted to make sure you knew for next go-round... |
The modules idea sounds fantastic! Never did I imagine when I bought this phone, that 1 year later we'd be creating custom ROMs using dumps from other phones! This is my first PDA let alone my first PDA phone, but I've learned a lot in the last year, so I'd really like to thank Mike, Helmi_c, and Colonel. I learned a lot on another forum, and that's how I got to PPCGeeks. I want to get a custom, slim ROM put together so I can "give back" in so many words.

Another BT Issue
When i do voice dialing from my BT device I don't get audible feedback..
|
There seem to be some issues with BT and VC, but it is really random. For instance, I don't have issues with the gateway not closing ever, but some people randomly do. I have had the issue of VC not responding to pressing the MFB and occasionally having IDTransfer not work. Hopefully with enought people testing this we can get some solutions.
|
PIE is unusable, locks up everytime.
When voice dialing, i no longer get an audible confirmation. For now i'm going back to the first 3.3 ROM I like the goodies that you put in, i just need the essentials to work too. Thanks for all your hard work colonel! -s |
Can I help?

How do I install my Alltel extended rom? I have attempted to copy and paste it from the copy on my storage, but it will not work. Any ideas? Note I did not install the Sprint Ext rom after setup. I erased the Sprint ext rom files after unlocking the ext rom.
|
My phone has been locking up today, several times. Once when fooling around with o2+ and twice while I was fooling around with skype.

To other users on different carriers, if you can do the same thing so I can get all of the extended roms, I can then package carrier specific upgrades with carrier extended roms to make things easier. |
I don't get how Rom Kitchen works? It looks very complicated. Could someone please explain a bit.
Thanx |
Hey, i see that my data connection stays on all the time.....i can's stop it...
|
Wow... I wish I hadn't been so busy with work in the last month... there've been some serious developments on the Apache front! Congrats and thanks to Helmi, wide awake, colonel (hey buddy!) and alll the others who have helped test thus far.
I've been purring along with 2.2 but I've got some time this weekend so I may get started in the kitchen (heh, the the figurative one). I agree that the kitchen is definitely the way to go because everyone's got their own idea of what the "perfect" ROM is. But working together we can save time by not duplicating each others' efforts. Anyway, I hope to be able to spend more time over here (which seems to be a great place with most of the brain trust for the Apache). Thanks again for all the hard work guys! I'll pitch in and do my share in the kitchen (just don't make me wash dishes!) :) |
same issues here I have ppcgeeks as home page and set it to load in one collum mode and just about everytime pie opens up it freezes.....so I dunno I hadn't tried the other 3.3 rom

Colonel,
I unlocked and unhid the sprint ext rom. I deleted it and copied my alltel ext rom from my storage card. Installed it and all seems fine. The apache unlocker from xda developers seemed to work. Thx for your reply though. Oh and thx for all of the work you put into this. It seems faster than the vanilla 3.3 rom i prev had installed. Last, IE does not work on this install as others have reported. |
How come my battery is draining about 25% faster than it used to with this Rom?

As far as the Rom Kitchen stuff, I kinda glanced over it, but haven't really gotten into it. I am finally comfortable with Mike's process. I will look at it soon enough. |
