When I try to remove the 3 MSN folders (which look like they deal with pocket msn), my phone will not boot.

Anyone figure out how to get rid of pocket msn?

I am going to try substituting a blank "pmsnserver.exe" file for the actual one in the dump folder and see what happens.

EDIT: substituting a blank pmsnserver.exe file for the actual one in the OEM seems to work. NOw when I get a text message, pmsnserver no longer shows up as a process. Still would have liked to have gotten rid of the entire pocketmsn, but this at least is a temporary fix.
Everything was working fine until I tried bluetooth.......I can't get it to turn on!!! I didn't touch anything except for the items listed above. Any ideas? If not, I will try a hard reset to see if that fixes it before reflashing.

EDIT: Second soft reset did the trick. Bluetooth is functioning again.

It turns out i didn't just remove the powerpoint, i also removed the MSN1-3 OEM packages from the rom kitchen. I haven't had any issues with that at all. Also I just tested by bluetooth and it turned on fine and worked as expected.

Don't know why i wasn't getting it before, but now that i understand it i'm going to work on putting some of the general apps i install and loading them into the ROM since that space is not counted against normal storage memory. This makes sense since it is called a ROM and must be flashed to be written to, but i wasn't quite catching that until now.

.
If removing the 3 MSNs worked for you, I will try it again.

Removed the MSNs and powerpoint.....seems to be working! Glady you tried it.

1. Has anyone figured out how to make their own OEMs yet? If so, can you give a step by step. I can't seem to figure it out.

2. Anybody know how to export registries from the phone?

3. What is the easiest way to make a cab file with all of my registry edits and custom settings (i.e. buttons, etc.) so that I don't have to redo the phone every single time?

Unclear - if I am reading the build right, its on the order of 7 meg - but I pulled out some stuff already, so without pulling anything, maybe 5MB (but that image lacks .NET)

As a reference, my dump file is about 95MB right now. This is what gets converted to a .nba. So I am thinking that it is pretty similar to the contents of your OS, OEM, and LOC folders. This is just a guess, but it looks about right. Anyway, I think you have quite a bit of room to play with. I didn't pull much out of the 3.3 rom before I installed all my stuff.

1. Well I haven't done any myself yet, but the process seems pretty straightforward. Look in the first post here:

http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?opt...4,23392,page=1

If you have any specific follow-up questions I'll take a stab at 'em.

2. Sure... Resco registry editor is what I use. Just hold down on the key you want (including entire hives) and choose export from the popup menu. It's easy and I've done it hundreds of times. There may be other reg editors with export capabilities, but I have always used and liked resco.

3. I bet this relates to your second question. Yes it can be quite easy to do with a program called WinCE Cab Manager. There are other ways of building cab files but that app makes it a cinch. I've been doing my own cab file for the last couple of years and it does save a lot of time when you hard reset a lot (which used to be more of an issue in Pre-WM5 days when dead battery = hard reset). It's still fun and useful, if only to teach yourself more about the inner workings of windows mobile, cab files, and all the rest.

If I were you I would work on #2 and 3 before you go to far trying to build a ROM. I think it helps to know a little bit about what goes into a cab file before you try to extrapolate that into making an OEM package. Just my 2 cents.
