OK a noob here, and I have a couple of questions.

1. How is a hard reset done? I know the note/power/softreset will get it into bootloader.

2. Does one have to unlock the ext_rom and back that stuff up? will it survive on a SD card?

I really like the phone, but would love better performance and longer battery life which seems to be two of the better features that everyone is raving about.

Hi, joey. dunno why i, all the sudden, am piping in here, but i can save the heavy-weights some time by answering this one. while pressing the two "soft keys (the top left and top right of the bottom set of buttons)", punch the reset button with your stylus. you will be prompted to clear (press Y) or cancel (press n). Press "Y" to clear and hard reset. hope that helps.

The extrom only needs to be unlocked if you intend on deleting or modifying any of the files. It does survive hard resets so no worries about backing it up. It can also be easily re-flashed from the stock image.

I cannot get this to work for the life of me. I have hard reset avoiding the verizon customizations. I put the phone into bootloader mode. I connected it via usa cable the phone came with. Opened up the AKU3.3 file and clicked next... got the screen which I guess is supposed to show me my current version and then the version I was going to get. It was blank, but I clicked next anyway. About 20 secs later it told me it was finished and successful. I unplugged the usb and hardreset the phone again it it was exactly the same as before! I have tried 3 different files and none of them change the phone at all. I tried it on another computer that didn't have windows xp but windows vista and get an error telling me that the upgrade utility isn't the correct version for my phone. Error 150. Can anyone please help? Thanks

I was hoping someone could help me out. I am unable to login to gotomypc and after some help from another forum, I have gotten this far. Is there any solution to this?

You are right. I can confirm that URL handlers are not working. I thought maybe they just weren't registered but your problem indicates it is deeper than that.

To reproduce this problem just sms yourself (vtext.com) any web url and try clicking it. It won't automatically load IE.

Fortunately it is not a big deal for me -- I just paste any URL into its appropriate application. If its in an email you can highlight then tap-hold, copy. If you tap-hold a link in IE and Add Favorite, you can highlight the whole URL and Copy, then cancel and go paste it into an Open dialog in Skype or Gotomypc. You just can't directly click those links and have the specific program load because URL handlers aren't working.

All,

After searching high and low for a fix for my flashing contacts after Helmi's update, I've found a post at :
http://www.phonenews.com/index.php?o...contentid=1773

Before this, I've tried everything I found on this thread regarding the syncing contracts issue.

But here it is: Go to programs of your device and select the "clear storage" application and follow the instructions. WARNING (as most of you already know) this will clear out all of the programs that you installed and data as well. To my surprise the call history of my phone is gone too.

Anyway bottom line is with active sync I was able to import all my data includng contacts.
javascript:emoticon('')
Very Happy
Sorry for the long post...this forum is a great information resource

In the upgrade box it should say aku3.3 if it says nothing then it hasn't recognized ur phone. Try reflashing.

You MUST hard reset your phone after flashing the new ROM. It sounds like some of you are not hard resetting, but you claim you are because maybe your terminology is messed up. A hard reset is the same as "Clear Storage" -- it's essentially reformatting your main memory and reinstalling your operating system from the ROM. Because you changed your ROM to this new AKU3.3, you must hard reset for all changes to take effect.

Hard reset == holding both soft keys and pressing the reset button with your stylus.

Soft reset == pressing the reset button with your stylus.
