Making Ring Tones For Your Apache Phone:
A very simplified guide by unGOdlike.
Use at your own risk! I offer no warranties, or guaranties that any part of this guide will work or won't mess up your phone, original audio file, or computer.

1) Download or buy an audio editor. I suggest http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity for those of us who don't want to fork out lots of cash but still want an easy to us program with lots of features.

2) After installing the audio editor of your choice, make a duplicate file of the file you wish to use as a ring tone. Open the duplicate file with the editor.

3) Listen to your music file and decide what piece of it you'd like to keep as a ring tone. Typically, ring tones are kept under 30 seconds to save space, increase quality, and reduce the chance of the ring tone not being recognized.

4) Delete the parts of the audio file that are not in the piece you decided to use. Export the file as a .wav I suggest changing the attributes to PCM 22.050 kHz, 8 bit, mono 21kb/sec. This will reduce the size of the ringtone to about 650kb but retain excellent sound quality. Alternatively, you can use PCM 11.025 kHz, 8 bit, mono 10kb/sec to reduce the average file size to about 325kb but it will sound like its coming through a tin can.

5) Connect your phone to your computer via the usb cord and open the active sync program.

6) Click the Explore button and navigate to \My Documents\My Ringtones

7) Drag and drop your ring tone into the folder.

You should now be able to Start\Settings\Phone on your Apache phone and select the ringtone.

9) Make a test call to make sure it works!
