Anyone replaced the 2.5mm jack with a 3.5mm?

it just irks me that phones these days still implement the 2.5mm jack.
they do this on purpose to thwart the phones to being a full fledged mp3 player as well.

has anyone hacked the apache and replaced the 2.5 with a 3.5?

You'd lose the mic functionality unless you replaced it with a 3.5mm jack that included mic too. Better solution is just an adaptor. You can pick one up at radio shack or bestbuy cheap.

There are also cheap 2.5mm stereo headphones w/mic that work well. Verizon includes a set with the Apache. That allows you to answer calls while listening to mp3's too.

No, they do it with a 2.5mm jack because that's the standard for telephones (all telephones, not just cell phones).

I have'nt looked at the space available around the jack, but 3.5mm jacks are not just bigger around, they're longer as well. There might not be enough room for a 4 conductor 3.5mm jack.
