Essential "to-do's" for a New Apache

hello all, and thanks for inviting me to this forum (via sprintusers.com). i just got my 6700 a couple of days ago and this is the first chance i get to really to some tinkering. but before i really start adding and adjusting things, i want to get the phone fully updated software wise. so....

1) What is the latest software upgrades for the 6700 (links if possible)?

2) Should I update the MS Active Sync software to the latest version as well?

3) What are other essential upgrades that should be made (camera, media player, etc) and does the latest standard software update cover that already?

4) What is the best and best priced bluetooth headset? (I was looking at the H700 but a friend mentioned to me blueparrot) any links to a site that reviews them?

thanks in advance, i know these are probably questions that have been answered already...but consolidation is always nice

1.) You can upgrade to the latest ROM by following the directions located HERE which adds a zip program, voice dialing, speeds up transition from landscape to portrait mode, and more.

2.) I would stick with activesync 4.1 since the latest version is still in the BETA stages.

3.) I would first install Magic Button, a task manager that actually close the programs instead of leaving them running as WM5 does by default. I would also install TCPMP which is a media player that can play mpegs. There is also a neat camera program that allows it to be used as a webcam via activsync. You can find that located in the have to haves for your ppc6700 thread.

4.) Im not to sure about bluetooth headsets, but I can suggest you not buy the Moto HS815. Volume on it is crappy.

Hope this helps. And welcome!

thanks Wideawake2 for the response. i think you were the one who invited me here initially as well.

i've update active sync as well as the ROM, all about 1 hour ago. both going very smoothly. i didnt even try the portriat to landscape till i read your reply...WOW it is much faster. i also noticed that reception is improved for EVDO...it now operates in some parts of my basement which is a deadzone for most people. anxious to see what else is working differently.

im going to upgrade the camera later today and possibly the browser as well.

question: i ordered a 1gig miniSD ($33.99, $18.99 after rebate ) and it should be arriving soon. should i go ahead and install programs to the hard drive or wait for the card to come?

no problem. it depends on what your trying to install. some programs need to be installed to the main memory and some are safe to install to the memory card. so let me know and if I know. then ill let u know. oh also I have tried some browsers out and find pieplus to be the best add on to pie.
