3 Questions about flashing to new ROM
Hi everyone, I would like to flash to Helmi's WM6 custom ROM for PPC6700 but have a few questions before I go ahead with it, to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.
1. Is this the right thread to go to for the WM6 ROM I'm looking for: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7671 2. Are the steps to flashing as below: - Hard Reset - Soft Reset when Customization screen pops up - Bootloader mode - Hook up the ppc to the USB & run the new ROM - Hard Reset - Soft Reset when Customization screen pops up 3. After I have flashed to the new ROM, can I still custom the today homepage? Before, I would just find a theme I like and then set it as my today's theme, but it looks like the new HTC today page is a little more intricate to change. I would like to use another theme other than the basic black/grey theme after flashing. I'm a girl and would like something a little more "cheerful" when I show my phone to my friends. Thank you for the help. -O |

Well if you're going WM6, can't see why you wouldn't go with the kitchen. That rom was Helmi's initial WM6 rom released for testing. He's since made a number of improvements to the core, and the ppcgeeks kitchen team incorporated these with some other great improvements in the official WM6 kitchen. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074 The kitchen is a straightforward tool set to create your own custom rom. Since the kitchen has made everything so easy, there aren't many pre-cooked WM6 roms (like Helmi's original) floating around. Robmayer's been developing a series of clean-and-simple pre-cooked roms based on helmi's latest - for the cooking-impaired. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9841. Folks seem to like them alot. Have fun. tmb

I am guilty of "kitchen impaired"
I don't cook in real life, so won't attempt it on my ppc. LOL I know, that's lame, but it's true. I had to read a lot of posts to be able to put the steps in terms someone like me would understand. I would not dare to cook up my own stuff even with that thread. I just KNOW I would do something stupid and end up bricking my phone.
I've tried reading that http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074 post, but I can't make head's or tails out of it. It's Greek. Not something someone like me would or should attempt on her own. ![]() As for some Robmayer's http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9841 do I follow the same steps when flashing to it? i.e.: - Hard Reset - Soft Reset when Customization screen pops up - Bootloader mode - Hook up the ppc to the USB & run the new ROM - Hard Reset - Soft Reset when Customization screen pops up |

Yes, same steps. Helmi, et al's latest kitchen with the Build OS is pretty idiot proof though.I don't know that I've seen any posts from anyon bricking their phone with the latest build OS from the guys. Just make sure you don't overload your kitchen with too many apps. I think there is going to be a newer build OS that will tell you if you have too much stuff loaded, but I don't think it's publicly available yet. Come on into the kitchen, we have lots of wine should you need it ![]()

No go yet
Well, I tried to download Robmayer's zip file for Sprint but keep getting a "cannot find server" error.
![]() When I get up the nerves, I might jump in and try my hands at the kitchen. Key word is TRY. hehe If I goof on the kitchen, I can always re-flash it to Helmi's ROM or Robmayer's (if I get it to work), right? |
