new old apache
Hey guys, Im sorry to tag this onto the end of this thread, but I thought it was the most appropriate place. I have just received a new (hand me down) apache (IT guys are always the last to get stuff) - anyway I like it! What I would like to do though is to update the ROM the current rom is way old 1.03.00 WWE. What I would like to know is, can I take a backup of the current rom, for in the even that I have to restore it to original state. Second I live in New Zealand (the phone is on the telecom network here), am I still to use the SPRINT rom or what?
BTW great resource you have here! cheers Jurgen |

Well I doubt u will be able to roll back to that old ROM. But u can use a OS only upgrade which most are here except the one in the first post that's sprints. On telecoms site theres an offical aku 2.2 which would be better than nothing until u decide to try out a custom 3.3 or 3.5.

Thanks Mike, Im still a bit confused though. Does telecom (my carrier) put something into their rom which allows only that rom to work on their network? say if I wanted to upgrade to one of the custom roms, this one for instance: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/saridnours-a...pr4-t2805.html will my phone still connect to the telecom network and function as it normally would, or would it not be able to connect? I know about the esn and that other a2d (i thinks its something like that) - these tie with there network, so i couldnt just get a phone from overseas and have telecom add it to their network, but my phone is already on their network, i just want a better rom.

It may void your warranty should they find out, but that can only happen if you show their techs your phone with the updated rom installed. You may want to choose carefully if the rom you want comes with an extended rom. This is carrier specific software(adware) that can and will affect your ability to connect to your carrier's data service. There are plenty of roms that don't come with extended roms, and you can even install the rom without the extended part. It will usually specify in the description what all is included, and if an extended rom comes. Quote:
