Your right. These downloads are not self-executing. This is the shorthand version:
-Download the right archive file for your carrier. Unpack it by opening with a suitable utility (try winrar.com free trial) and extracting to the desktop.
-Put your phone in bootloader mode (simultaneous record,power,reset)
-Connect phone by USB to computer
-Run APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe by double clicking
-when flash is done, remove phone
-hard reset
-soft reset when customization count down comes up.

Have fun.
Rob, I'm having several lock ups with this new version, I pick up the phone to surf or make a call and I'm obligated to a soft reset almost all the time, also refering to the title of this post, what customization countdown? I'm running Sprint version and none of your roms asked for that after flashing the phone, how you do that?

Thanks

aguaron,
I'm not Rob, but since you quoted me I'll reply.
After a hard reset, you initialize the screen and set the time, then typically a window pops up saying something like, "will begin customizing your phone in 3, 2, 1 seconds". After this, the phone loads all your carrier customizations that a) make it work seamlessly with the network - good; b) impose limits on what you can do with the phone or fill up the memory with useless junk - bad.
Although not universal, when a rom is released for a specific carrier, usually the rom-cooker (Rob in this case) has built-in the good customizations and left out the bad ones. Allowing customizations to run on top of what's already in the rom causes problems, so we interrupt them by soft-resetting (stylus in hole) at the right time.
I don't use this rom and offered comments simply to keep things moving along. If Rob does things differently now, then I'm sorry for misleading you and defer to any comments he has.

Rob, the first program i installed was MSVC 1.6 (to the progam memory, not storage card), and noticed that slidesound now always crashes. Even after uninstalling MSVC, slidesound still crashes when you close the keyboard. Even if I manually start the program again, it will always crash when you close the keyboard.

I saw the thread at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7019&page=3

and i get the same error as what "adrian2pm" mentions.

Tiermann says that we need to have .net CF 2.0 or higher, so does this ROM have this?

Also what version of slidesound is this? 1.07??

EDIT: I just installed the 1.07 version, same issue, but this time crash happens when i open the keyboard, it would be nice to have a fix for this as the program is pretty cool
EDIT: the program crashes randomly, sometimes with keyboard going out, or going back in

aguaron,

If your customizations did not run after you installed Rob's rom, then chances are likely that your extended rom was blank in the first place. If you previosly installed a 3rd party ROM, like the ones from ppcgeeks, some of them wipe the extended rom.

Rob's roms for sprint/verizon already have the carrier customizations built in, so unless you are installing his "generic" version, you won't need the sprint cabs that were originally in your extended rom

I'm a complete newbie to roms, extended roms, flashes, bootloader, etc.

But I have to say, I spent a few hours going through this thread and was able to successfully upgrade to build 7 and am totally blown away!

Much thanks and props to everyone involved!

Is there a fix for getting the device to recognize the SD storage card memory? Right now the extended ROM is also recognized as "storage card" and when trying to save mail/attachments/pictures/etc. to "storage card" it's the extended ROM that comes up as the storage card option.

I'll do a more detailed writeup later, but this ROM has been rock solid.

In fact I am using the included overclocker program to run at 624Mhz, and the thing flys like the wind. I left kirvin 3.5 earlier and rob's B7 is a great replacement, just do it!

My only peave is the included slidesound is NOT working(see my earlier post), i WANT THIS TO WORK!!! someone, please help me on this!!

spn,
Pocket Outlook is still not able to see past the Extended Rom. The only workaround is to re-hide it using the following registry keys:

HIDDEN: (Original Setting)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000001

SHOWN:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000

i did the below to rehide the extended rom, you need to do this also: this was posted somewhere else but i forgot where

"After you installed all the programs that you want to install to your ExtendedRom, you have to hide the ExtendedRom as "HKLM/System/StorageManager/Profiles/TRUEFFS_DOC1/MountHidden to 1.

Then, you will not see the ExtendedRom but you can type "/Extended_ROM2" in the address bar and reach it. After you hide the ExtendedRom, the email attachment will be saved to the Storage Card"

I tried this, but the Extended Rom is still showing up as the "Storage Card" option for saving mail attachments, etc.
