Im not talking about add'ons or extra software. just straight up roms yours vs colonial vs sprint_htc rom
I'm sorry... I aplogize for missing your question. The only thing I can think of is maybe the removal of the HTC Task manager. That and just cleaning up a bunch of not needed files and reg keys that might have been interfering with the ROM. I mean, that's about all I can think of. If I think of anything else I'll be sure to let you know.

Did you use the VistaRUU workaround? I think I saw you were using Vista. I'm on a vista box and haven't had any issues connecting. HOWEVER, I have had some customers using one of our pps on various WM5 devices and both in XP and Vista there are some weird variances wth having to connect and disconnect the devices numerous times to get active sync to recognize the device. No AS recognize no PC working.

I also can't remember, but I know that I've seen a pop up with PC that indicates using an alternative method of connecting. Did you try that?
PC 6.01 Build 1256 here. The issue is that PC is detecting the phone as connected and trying to connect via ActiveSync before ActiveSync has fully connected. I don't think it should detect the device until ActiveSync is connected, so I have a feeling something is happening in the wrong order here. It could be a problem with WMDC or the ROM or Pocket Controller. It's been a low priority item for me. At some point I'll do some real investigation on this front.

I'm using Vista-64. The VistaRUU only works on Vista-32. I flashed my device in a VMWare virtual machine.

I've tried connecting through TCP/IP rather than ActiveSync. I've also tried the various options for changing the connection behavior. The TCP/IP option is unreliable (and I think SOTI knows that...that's why it's not the default) and always has been for me. The various options don't seem to have had any impact.

I really don't know how those contacts got on my dialer. I didn't even know who "Bryan" was. Very odd, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Yep, the file explorer in Helmi's, and my v.1 was not default(although it tricked me for a while, I thought MS finally wised up and gave us a file explorer worth using). however, it was not stock and that was my main intention in my build 4. I wanted to put out a ROM as if it came straight from an OEM HTC device.. or as close as possible.
No problem on HTC Home 1.5. I'm patient. And if it never makes it in, that's ok too.

As for the file explorer issue, that's fine. I'm happy with having just stock stuff in the ROM. My only issue is that I wanted to add that file explorer back in myself and didn't know what it was. Like you, I was fooled into thinking that what was in the ROM was the default explorer from MS.

If you can add that "Documents" item to your Downloads section when you get a chance, that would be great. No rush, though.

Thanks again for all the hard work. I apologize if I ever sound impatient or if it feels like I'm pressuring you. DEFINITELY NOT my intention.

Lock Up Issues

Hey First off I'd like to thank you for making an awesome upgrade even better.

But the problem I'm having is that after upgrading to your version 3 of the Verizon ROM and upgrading the radio to 1.43, i'm experinencing more DSOD's and lockups than ever, usually about 3 a day.

Do you think the problem would be the version 3 of your ROM, or just the radio being upgraded to 1.43, I know you said you were having problems with the Radio upgrade.

What would be anyones best suggestion for avoiding lockups or DSOD's in the first place?

Also:
I'm running a Verizon xv6700 on build 3 with radio 1.43

I too have random lockups that I've been trying to isolate. For what it's worth here's what I've found out so far:
  1. I'm running the Sprint V3 ROM with the 1.41 radio
  2. I find the lockups generally clear after 5 to 10 minutes if you are patient enough. However this is not always true for me.
  3. I use my phone primarily in an area where I bounce in and out of EVDO mode and 1xRTT often.
  4. My data connection will stop responding and the only way I can get it back, short of a soft reset, is to disable and renable the phone in comm manager. Reseting the "Data Connection" in comm manager doesn't fix it.
  5. I've tried various configurations from the straight ROM with no patches and still get the problem. However I can confirm this is the same behavior I get whether on Helmi_c's untouched ROM or this "Clean" version of his ROM.
Otherwise, very happy. Thanks Rob and Helmi for making this so.

Hmmm.. very strange. I have not experienced one dsod since using my ROM. It might actually be v.3 though. I have been using build 4 since I released and have no problems. Try build 4, it might solve some of the issues you are having.

Oh and lastly, just so everyone knows... Radio 1.43 is no longer acting up for me. Must have just been me, because now it seems to be working great!

OK rob, so i have been running your build 4 stock for sprint for 3 days, and thus far its been fantastic. I can't complain about anything. speed is better and no major lockups. man i am one happy camper!

My only wishes at this point:

my documents shortcut on start menu - yea i want that too

htc home 1.5 - can this be installed via a cab, or do we need to wait till next rom?

sdhc cab file - a link on your downloads page to this would be nice

radio upgrade to 1.43 for sprint - i heard there are other ways to extract the files from your verizon install, but I am hoping there might be a way one can build a simple exe for us sprint users to upgrade the radio....

i will make my donation to both you and the ppcgeeks site, I need to please upper management right?

Hey, no need to ever feel like you, or anybody else is pressuring me. I will be posting up the documents in start menu in my downloads section though so I'll make a post when it's available. Lastly, thank you so much for your supprt! Very much appreciated!

Wow, very weird. A few suggestions... make sure you are hard-resetting after flashing. If that doesn't clear it up, try flashing to stock and back and see what happens then. Also, make sure you are not using a cheapo SD Card or anything. You know, something that might be a suspect for causing a dsod or random freezes. Other than that... maybe you should go to a VZW Authorized Dealer and try and get a replacement. I had the same thing on WM5, and it was definitely a phone problem. I told them what was going on and they gave me a new one. It works perfect now, even with WM6.

That's great news, glad your happy with the ROM! Documents... consider it done(well, shortly), HTC Home... a possibility when I finish my new website, SDHC... consider that done too, and the Radio 1.43... I can package up a Sprint package if you want, or you could take the radio_.nbf file from my package and copy it over to the folder containing my Sprint WM6 ROM and flash that way(delete the nk.nbf file to just flash the radio in that case). Hope this helps... I'll post when I have the stuff up for download in my downloads section.

Rob - Nice work, I upgraded from VZG's Dev4 this am, and the issue I had been having with USB connections to my PC went away (I never had them with the original Helmi_c release). I was also having an issue with my SD card, disappearing - which I suspect may be related to the SDHC stuff, so I'm happy your version doesn't include that. I'll see if I have any more issues. I'm thinking this should hold me over until the "official" kitchen comes out.

No Java Middlet in B4?

Rob, great work! I installed B4 after been with v2 for a while, the rom is great but I'm disappointed you deleted the Java Middlet, there is a new version of the great opera mini and I cannot install, I'm considering a downgrade now.

Any Chance we can have this in the next release?

Keep the excellent work, my donation is coming
